🔧What is going on?
Metro D is nearing the completion of Phase 1 of the D Line Extension Project, which includes three new stations –– Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega. In order to install the complex communication and power systems, and connect to the existing infrastructure, Metro needs to shut down service on the D line.
We understand that this is super inconvenient😕, just remember that this inconvenience is adding a transit lifeline 💪 to your city that will help commuters and travelers for years to come.
📅What to expect?
The D Line will temporarily close starting the beginning of service on May 17th and continue through the end of service on July 25th. There will be no train service between the Wilshire/Vermont, Wilshire/Normandie and Wilshire/Western stations.
🚍But what about travel alternatives?
Travel between Union Station and Wilshire/Vermont: The B Line shares all D Line station stops between Union Station and Wilshire/Vermont. Throughout the closure described above, B Line trains will run every 8 minutes between North Hollywood and Union Station rather than the usual 12 minutes from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (the 8-minute headways will begin at approximately 7:00 a.m. on weekends). B Line trains will run every 20 minutes starting at 9:00 p.m. through end-of-service each day during this period.
Travel between Wilshire/Vermont and Wilshire/Western: A Metro shuttle bus (Line 855) will connect riders between Wilshire/Vermont, Wilshire/Normandie and Wilshire/Western stations. The shuttle bus will align with the B Line schedule and operate from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends. Lines 720 and 20, which run along Wilshire Boulevard, will continue their usual routes and may be used to travel between the D Line stations along Wilshire Boulevard and to and from downtown LA (use 5th Street heading westbound, and 6th Street heading eastbound).
