Navigating Seattle During This Summer’s Major Soccer Championship

June 4, 2026

Your Ultimate Transit Guide to the Global Matches, Fan Zones, and Daily Commuting from June 11 to July 19, 2026

The world’s biggest soccer tournament is descending upon the Pacific Northwest, bringing hundreds of thousands of fans to Seattle. The city will proudly host six major matches this summer at the stadium in the Industrial District (referred to during the tournament as Seattle Stadium) on June 15, June 19, June 22, June 25, June 29, and July 6, 2026. Whether you are heading to the stadium, traveling to a fan celebration, or just commuting to work, public transit will look very different.

Because transit schedules are highly dynamic—with Link light rail extensions, expanded ferry sailings, and live, real-time disruptions based on traffic—you can rely on Moovit for up-to-the-minute trip planning. Moovit tracks everything across Sound Transit, King County Metro, and Washington State Ferries to ensure you travel smoothly.

🛑 Choose Your Journey Below:

⚽ 1. I Am Attending a Match at the Stadium

All matches are being held at Seattle Stadium just south of downtown. Parking around the stadium will be heavily restricted and exceptionally expensive, making mass transit the premier option.

  • Link Light Rail Surge Service: Sound Transit is running extra trains on the 1 Line and 2 Line, maximizing capacity directly to Stadium Station and International District/Chinatown Station. Trains will run as frequently as every 6 minutes before and after matches.
  • Sounder Train Game-Day Runs: For select weekend or evening matches, Sound Transit will operate special Sounder Regional Rail trains from Everett and Lakewood directly to King Street Station (located right next to the stadium).
  • King County Metro Express Bus Lanes: Key bus routes coming from North and South King County will utilize dedicated transit lanes to bypass highway gridlock on I-5 and the Alaskan Way Viaduct corridor.

🎉 2. I Am Heading to Fan Events & Watch Parties

Official tournament fan festivals, giant watch parties, and public celebrations are taking over Seattle Center (under the Space Needle) and various downtown waterfront parks from June 11 to July 19.

  • 🔍 Find Your Celebration Instantly: Don’t waste time typing in specific park lawns or street corners. Simply search the term “Fan Zone” in the Moovit app to instantly view the quickest transit routes to all active event sites in the Seattle area.
  • 📍 Look for the Icons: When exploring the map in Moovit, keep an eye out for specially marked event icons highlighting exactly where the biggest official watch parties and tournament festivals are located.
  • Seattle Center Monorail Boost: To handle massive crowds moving between downtown and the Seattle Center Fan Zone, the Monorail will operate continuously, departing every 4 to 5 minutes with extended late-night hours.

💼 3. I Am Navigating the City (Not Attending the Events)

If you are a local resident or daily commuter trying to get around Greater Seattle or across Puget Sound without attending the events, prepare for significant changes to your routine.

  • Washington State Ferries Surge: Ferries connecting Bainbridge Island and Bremerton to Colman Dock (Seattle) will experience heavy walk-on and vehicular passenger surges on the 6 match days. WSF is running optimized sailing schedules, but vehicles should expect multi-hour wait times.
  • Downtown Transit Tunnel Congestion: The downtown transit tunnel (Westlake, University Street, Pioneer Square stations) will be highly congested during afternoon rush hours. Commuters are advised to travel earlier or later if possible.

King County Metro Reroutes: Multiple downtown bus routes will be temporarily rerouted away from 1st Avenue and the Pioneer Square neighborhood on match days.
