From Monday, March 25 to Saturday, April 6, PG&E will be working on Market Street near the intersection of Golden Gate and Jones to complete vault work under the tracks to support future phases of the Better Market Street Project. This requires us to motorize — replacing rail vehicles with buses — the F Market & Wharves Line for its full route as the tracks will not be available for use by historic streetcars. SFMTA is also using this time to complete other work within the trackway, primarily on Market between 7th Street and the intersection of McAllister & Jones.
Service Change Details
Service will be impacted on Market St, between 5th and 8th. As noted above, the F Market & Wharves Line will be serviced by buses for the duration of the work on Market Street. Muni passengers looking to ride the F Line will need to board buses that will say “F Market” on them, as no historic street cars will be able to operate along Market Street nor will they be able to access The Embarcadero portion of the line. It will also require some minor reroutes to the 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid and 19 Polk Muni routes. Service change details, by route, are available below.
Service Changes During Better Market Street Work
- The F Market & Wharves Bus Shuttle will service the regular F Market streetcar boarding island stops along the entire route, except in the area of construction work where they will service curbside stops.
- These routes will follow regular service with the exception of buses using the curbside lane and stop locations along the impacted area of Market Street:
- L Taraval Bus
- L Owl
- N Judah Bus
- N Owl
- 6 Haight/Parnassus
- 7 Haight/Noriega
- 9 San Bruno & 9R San Bruno Rapid
- 5 Fulton & 5R Fulton Rapid will skip the stop: McAllister St & Leavenworth St.
- 19 Polk Inbound will skip stops: 7th St & Mission St, 7th St & Market St, and Market St & Hyde St.
- 19 Polk Outbound will skip the stop: Hyde St & Grove St.
- 27 Bryant Inbound will skip the stop: Hyde St & Grove St.
