MBTA Updates
Red Line
This Weekend: Shuttle buses replacing Red Line service between Braintree and North Quincy Stations this weekend, July 15 – 16, from start to end of service.
- Red Line train service is scheduled to resume at the start of service on Monday, July 17.
- Following this weekend shuttle, northbound trains may experience minor delays from Quincy Center to Wollaston as a result of the track work performed.
- All shuttle bus stops are accessible for persons with disabilities.
- Shuttling the following stops:
- North Quincy (busway)
- Wollaston (Connect to shuttle buses on Newport Ave/Beale St)
- Quincy Center (busway)
- Quincy Adams (busway)
- Braintree (busway)

Newburyport/Rockport
Scheduled maintenance work
- As a result, there will be no train service on weekends from July 15 to September 30, and no train service north of Salem on weekdays from July 17 to August 13.
- We will run ADA accessible bus shuttles to help you make your way between the North Shore and Boston.
- Expanded weekend ferry service:
- The City of Salem and Boston Harbor Cruises will be expanding ferry service to and from Long Wharf in Boston on weekends from July 15 through September 30.
- Updated schedules:
Traveling between Boston & the North Shore
- Accessible bus shuttles – with WiFi and restroom facilities – will run between North Station and Newburyport, and North Station and Rockport, making stops at every Commuter Rail station.
- The City of Salem and Boston Harbor Cruises will be expanding ferry service to and from Long Wharf in Boston on weekends from July 15 through September 30. Click here for service details.
You can also:
- Drive to a Blue Line stop or use a different Commuter Rail line to get to Boston.
- Use local MBTA bus service in your area to connect to a subway train traveling to Boston.
- Ride the Salem or Lynn ferries.
- Connect with C&J or Coach Company for bus service to and from the Newburyport area.
Shuttle buses
- $10 round trip ticket.
- Tickets sold at the North Station ticket office in Boston.
- Zone 3 or higher monthly passes will be accepted.
Parking
- Parking will be free at all available station lots north of Beverly Depot Station (North Beverly, Hamilton/Wenham, Ipswich, Rowley, Newburyport, Montserrat, Beverly Farms, Manchester, West Gloucester, Gloucester, and Rockport).
- Please note: Parking at Salem Station is limited and parking laws will be strictly enforced across the city.
Any limitations?
- Bicycles (including folding bikes) are not allowed on shuttle buses due to space restrictions.
Extended ferry service
- Please note that these trips will be on the 272-passenger catamaran ferry The Manhattan, a different vessel from the Bowditch, Salem’s regular ferry, and trip times will be increased to approximately 75 minutes.

Whats happening?
- On weekends between July 8 and September 30, we will be installing a federally-mandated, automatic train braking-safety system, called Positive Train Control (PTC) on the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line.
