LIRR Service Alerts

On the weekend of March 7-8, departure and arrival times for trains operating between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal will change as LIRR forces continue the implementation of Positive Train Control (PTC), a safety-enhancing technology.

As a result, special timetables will be in effect for all branches (with the exception of the Port Washington Branch). Key service changes include:

Far Rockaway/West Hempstead Branches: Some eastbound trains will depart Atlantic Terminal up to 11 minutes earlier than normal train times. Customers may need to board earlier trains at Penn Station through Jamaica for connecting service to these trains.

Note: The 11:31 PM train from Atlantic Terminal to Far Rockaway will depart 18 minutes earlier, at 11:13 PM.
Hempstead Branch: Some westbound trains will depart up to 7 minutes later than normal train times.

Ronkonkoma Branch: Westbound trains will leave up to 8 minutes earlier than normal train times. This includes the 12:11 PM and 5:11 PM trains from Greenport, which will leave at 12:03 PM and 5:03 PM.

New timetables go into effect on Monday, March 9, 2020 and continue through May 17, 2020. As Amtrak’s state-of-good-repair trackwork at Penn Station shifts to lower tracks, rush-hour trains that had been canceled or diverted will be restored. Ronkonkoma Branch customers should pay close attention to the new schedules, as there will be some Reverse-Peak service changes due to resumption of concrete tie replacement work.
