Roadworks and changes to some Manchester city centre roads throughout February and March. This means there is an increased likelihood of congestion affecting both general traffic and buses.

Until Friday 17 March, there are closures and restrictions in place. Oxford Road between Booth Street East/West and Whitworth Street affected.

The closures and restrictions are to allow layouts and resurfacing to be carried out. In addition to development activity for Manchester Metropolitan University and the former BBC site.

Bus

Buses will not be able to use the section of Oxford Road. Between Booth Street East/West and Charles Street from Mon 13 February to Friday 17 March.

Services will be diverted around the work area. The following services are affected: 15, 41, 42A, 42B, 42C, 42D, 43, 44, 45, 50, 85, 85A, 86, 86N, 111, 130, 142, 142N, 143, 143N, 147, 191, 197, 250, 253, 263, V3

Maps and more information will be posted on the affected bus stops so you can find your temporary alternative stop.

The diversions will mean a longer journey time for your trip.

Friday 17 March

Oxford Road will be closed to all traffic between Booth Street East/West and Charles Street to progress development at Manchester Metropolitan University and at the former BBC site.

The Booth Street and Charles Street junctions are not affected by the closure.

The closure will mostly affect local traffic as a bus gate has been in force on Oxford Road since June 2016, prohibiting inbound general traffic beyond Hathersage Road between 6am and 9pm. As a result of the closure of Oxford Road there could be a knock-on effect on through traffic using the Upper Brook Street corridor.

Expect congestion in and around Oxford Road and Upper Brook Street, and on surrounding roads, particularly at peak travelling times and especially in the evening as people head home.

Local diversions will be in place for access traffic.
