Changes due to Movement Restriction Order in Malaysia

On the night of 16th March, Prime Minister of Malaysia Muhyiddin Yassin had announced that Malaysia will be enforcing a partial lockdown starting today, 18th March until 31st March 2020. During such a period, Malaysia will not admit any non-national from entering Malaysia and nationals are prohibited from exiting the country.

All public transport operators had responded to the lockdown and services that run between the 2 countries will be either rerouted or suspended.

Details of changes as follows:

1) Franchised Bus Service

Bus services to be suspended: 170x (SBS Transit), 950 (SMRT Buses)

Bus services that will be diverted:

2) Bus Service by Malaysian Bus Operator

The operator of Causeway Link had announced that all the cross border bus service will be suspended until 31st March 2020. While other operators such as Advanced Coach and Transtar had yet to announce any changes but it is very likely their services will be suspended too.

3) Railway service by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad

The Shuttle Tebrau likely be only public transport link between the 2 countries that remains operational during the lockdown. However, KTM Berhad, the operator of Shuttle Tebrau had announced that passenger restrictions apply for the service. Only Non-Malaysians can board the train toward the Singapore side, while train that going back to Johor Bahru can only be boarded by Malaysian nationals.

Singapore’s bus service may be impacted during the lockdown

As Singapore’s public transport workforce run by a significant amount of Malaysians residing in Johor, the movement restriction order will stop these workers from coming into Singapore to perform their duty. However, all the 4 Public Transport Operators (PTO); SBS Transit, SMRT Buses, Go-Ahead Singapore & Tower Transit, had taken measures to ensure minimal impact of Singapore’s bus service. Bus Captains residing in Malaysia are offered accommodation in the republic for the next 14 days by PTO to ensure there are enough Bus Captains to keep our public transport service at the top-notch condition.
