LIRR
March 25 (Overnight): Westbound Trains To Bypass Kew Gardens, Forest Hills & Woodside Stations
From midnight through 4 AM on Thursday, March 25, westbound Main Line trains (excluding Port Washington Branch trains) will bypass Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Woodside stations, as LIRR forces perform trackwork.
Westbound customers planning to exit at Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Woodside can remain on the train until it reaches Penn Station, and then head east on the next eastbound train at no additional charge. Eastbound service to/from Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens is scheduled to operate normally.
As an alternative, NYC Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets for substitute subway service at Jamaica, Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike, Forest Hills-71st Ave and 61st Street-Woodside during the following time period:
- 12 AM – 2 AM, Thursday, March 25
The subway is closed daily, from 2 AM – 4 AM, for enhanced cleaning and disinfecting.

Westbound customers from Long Island traveling to Kew Gardens, Forest Hills or Woodside can transfer to the

Westbound customers at Kew Gardens and Forest Hills can board the subway at Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike or Forest Hills-71st Avenue, where NYC Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets.
Starting Your Westbound Trip at Woodside?
Westbound customers at Woodside can take a Port Washington Branch train to Penn Station. Port Washington Branch trains will continue to stop at Woodside. As an alternative, you can take the 
Monday, March 29: New Timetables in Effect
Starting Monday, March 29, new LIRR timetables will take effect on all branches. Off-peak fares will remain in effect on all trains, even during traditional peak hours.
The new timetables restore weekday service to levels similar to what had been in effect from January 25 – March 5, 2021. Printed timetables will not be distributed. Click here to view timetables for your branch.
Branch-Specific Advisories:
- Port Washington Branch: Hourly service will remain in effect during Off-peak hours, and there are some changes to Peak departure times and stopping patterns, given the concrete tie installation project now underway between Mets-Willets Point and Bayside. This work, which will improve the safety and reliability of our track infrastructure, currently limits us to the use of a single track between these stations.
- Hempstead Branch: During the evening rush hour, the 5:38 PM train from Penn Station to Hempstead will instead temporarily depart from Atlantic Terminal at 5:46 PM due to trackwork. A connecting train from Penn Station is scheduled to depart at 5:33 PM; change at Jamaica for service to Hempstead.
