🏃♂️🎉The annual Bay to Brakers Race will take place this Sunday, May 18th. Muni will provide special Muni service to help Bay to Breakers Participants and non-participants to get where they need to go.
The race cuts the city in half and provides only to crossing points for buses and vehicles:

The easiest and fastest way to travel during the race is to stay on one side of the race route.
For those who need to cross the route – the fastest ways are to use a train, the following trains cross the race route:

🚶♀️Or consider crossing on Foot, Muni Bus routes will carry passengers as close as possible to the race route so you can walk across the race route and pick up a bus on the other side.
🎽Are you a Bay to Breaker Racer? This year Muni is excited to announce that early morning train service is back to help runners get to the Bay to Breakers starting line. 💳Muni suggests buying your fare in advance or using your Clipper Card due to the number of riders expected.
Pre-Race Transit Options to the Bay to the Breakers Starting Line
The 5R Fulton Rapid inbound bus will depart Cabrillo and La Playa streets every 10 minutes from 5 to 7:30 a.m. These buses will serve all 5R inbound stops.
N Judah inbound trains will depart Judah and La Playa streets every 20 minutes from 5:30 to 6:50 a.m. These trains will serve all N Judah stops except Civic Center, Powell, and Montgomery stations.
S Shuttle inbound trains will operate every 12 minutes between West Portal and Embarcadero stations from 6 to 8 a.m. These trains will serve all Muni Metro stations except Civic Center, Powell, and Montgomery stations.
Regular early morning bus services on 5 Fulton, N Judah Bus, and L Owl will be in operation as well.
Post-Race Transit Options Departing from the Bay to Breaker Finishing Line
The 5R Fulton Rapid Inbound and 5X Fulton Express Service to Civic Center will depart Cabrillo and La Playa streets every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Extra N Judah trains will be in service.
Extra 28 19th Avenue buses will be in service.
Impacts to regular Muni service during Bay to Breakers

The following bus routes are split in half by the Bay to Breakers Race Route at Howard, 9th, Hayes, Divisadero, or Fulton streets. Buses on these routes will bring customers as close as possible to the race route and drop them off. Customers looking to get to the other side must cross the race route “on foot” and board a new bus on the other side. These routes are: 7 Haight/Noriega, 8 Bayshore, 9 San Bruno, 12 Folsom/Pacific, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 19 Polk, 22 Fillmore, 24 Divisadero, 27 Bryant, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 43 Masonic, 49 Van Ness/Mission, F Market & Wharves Bus
The following bus lines are impacted by the race route and will provide service on one side of the race only: 6 Haight/Parnassus (west side), 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express (south side), 30 Stockton (north side), 45 Union/Stockton (north side)
The following routes will be rerouted via Crossover Dr: 18 46th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 44 O’Shaughnessy
The following Early Morning Routes will be rerouted in the downtown area: K Ingleside Bus, N Judah Bus, L Owl, T Third Street Bus
The F Market & Wharves Line Street Cars will operate on The Embarcadero only, between Ferry Plaza and Fisherman’s Wharf. F Line buses will operate on Market Street. These services will remain in place all day.
South Side of Race Route: Muni routes 8 Bayshore and 12 Folsom/Pacific inbound service will go as far as Central Subway’s Yerba Buena Station.
North Side of Race Route: Muni routes 8 Bayshore and 12 Folsom/Pacific outbound service will go as far as the Embarcadero Station where customers can transfer to Muni or BART to continue their trip.
During the Bay to Breakers event, Muni service will be available to customers who need to cross the race route:
- J Church, K Ingleside, M Oceanview, N Judah and S Shuttle:
- Train service at these stations will open at 6 a.m.: West Portal, Forest Hill, Castro, Church, Van Ness, and Embarcadero
- Train service at these stations will open at 8 a.m.: Civic Center, Powell, and Montgomery
- T Third train service in Central Subway will start at 8 a.m.
- Bus routes 28 19th Avenue, 39 Coit, 44 O’Shaughnessy via Crossover Dr.
Regional Transit Options
BART and Caltrain will operate special early Sunday morning service and Private Chartered Buses will operate express buses from Mill Valley, Emeryville and Millbrae BART stations for the race. Race participants and fans using Bay Area public transportation systems are strongly encouraged to purchase their fares in advance or use Clipper® Card to attend this event.
