Next week is Fix-It Week for Muni Market Street Subway.
What is Fix-It week?
Great question – During this week, Muni plans early subway closures in order to complete critical maintenance tasks that cannot be completed during the regular after service hours. This is Muni’s ongoing effort to make subway operations safer and more reliable, and to prevent future breakdowns.
What is being closed?
From May 5th to May 9th, Muni Market Street Subway will close nightly from 9:30 PM and will reopen for regular morning service each day.
What are my travel alternatives?
KLM Bus Shuttles will serve Muni Metro Stops between Steuart/Market and St. Francis Circle. N Bus will serve between Church/Duboce and Caltrain
K trains will operate between Balboa Park and St. Francis Circle
L Buses will operate between West Portal and SF Zoo
M Trains will operate between Balboa Park and St. Francis Circle
N Trains will operate “interlined” with N Judah between Balboa Park and Ocean Beach for both directions with a switch at Church/Duboce. N Judah train will contune to Balboa Park as J Church. N Judah Bus will serve between Duboce/Church and Caltrain
J Trains will operate “interlined” with N Judah between Balboa Park and Ocean Beach for both directions with a switch at Church/Duboce. J Church train will continue to Ocean Beach as N Judah
T Trains will continue to operate on the regular schedule between Sunnydale and Chinatown
Transfer between train and shuttle bus at West Portal/Sloat (K&M), West Portal/Ulloa (L), Church/Duboce or Church/Market (J&N), Powell – Union Square/Market (T). Owl service remain unchanged. Trains will start regular morning service each day.
For service on Market Street, Muni riders can board bus shuttles at bus stops marked with “JKLMN Metro Bus Sub”.

I need an accessible transfer, what are my options?
- For J Line passengers heading downtown, exit the train at the accessible boarding island on Church St & Market St. Board the KLM Bus Shuttle at the boarding island on Market St & Church St.
- For J Line passengers heading toward Balboa Park from Downtown, exit the KLM Bus Shuttle at the boarding island on Market St & Church St. Board the train at the accessible boarding island on Church & Market St.
- For N Line passengers heading downtown, exit the train at the accessible boarding island on Church & Market St. Boarding the KLM Bus shuttle at the boarding Island on Market St & Church St.
- For N Line passengers heading toward Ocean Beach from Downtown, exit the KLM Bus Shuttle at the boarding island on Market St & Church St. Board the train at the accessible boarding island on Church St & Market St.
- For passengers looking to transfer between N and J trains, simply stay on board the train as N Judah and J Church trains will operate between Balboa Park and Judah & La Playa.
