    MTA Holiday travel 2020

    MTA is strongly urging riders to follow public health recommendations and to avoid traveling if possible. If you must travel, see details about schedule changes on New York City subways and buses, plus the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad.

    Schedule details

    Subways

    • Thursday, December 24: Regular weekday schedule
    • Friday, December 25: Sunday schedule. Staten Island Railway runs on a Saturday schedule.
    • Thursday, December 31: Regular weekday schedule
    • Friday, January 1: Sunday schedule. Staten Island Railway runs on a Saturday schedule.

    Buses

    • Thursday, December 24: Reduced service on some lines
    • Friday, December 25: Sunday schedule
    • Thursday, December 31: Reduced service on some lines
    • Friday, January 1: Sunday schedule

    LIRR and Metro-North

    Off-peak fares are in effect unless otherwise noted.

    Alcohol will not be allowed on trains, stations, or platforms starting at noon on Thursday, December 31, through noon on Friday, January 1, 2021.

    LIRR

    Metro-North, East of Hudson

    • Thursday, December 24: Regular weekday schedule
    • Friday, December 25: Weekend/holiday schedule with hourly service on most line segments; regular weekend service on all branch lines
    • Thursday, December 31: Regular weekday schedule
    • Friday, January 1: Weekend/holiday schedule

    Metro-North, West of Hudson

    • Thursday, December 24: Regular weekday schedule, with regular peak/off-peak fares
    • Friday, December 25: Weekend/holiday schedule
    • Thursday, December 31: Regular weekday schedule, with regular peak/off-peak fares
    • Friday, January 1: Weekend/holiday schedule

    There’s an extra train on Sunday, December 27, and Sunday, January 3, from Port Jervis to Secaucus Jct and Hoboken:

    • The train departs Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m., making all stops to Suffern
    • It operates express to Secaucus Jct and Hoboken, arriving at 6:24 p.m.
    • The connecting train from Secaucus Jct to New York arrives in Penn Station at 6:33 p.m.

    New Year’s Eve service near Times Square

    Station entrance closures

    No stations will be bypassed this year.

    NYPD expects to close some entrances at these stations:

    Times Sq—42 St 

    • The entrances along 42 St will be closed from noon on December 31 until 12:10 a.m. on January 1
    • All entrances on 40 St and 41 St should remain open

    49 St 

    • The entrances on 47 St will be closed from 5 a.m. on December 31 until 5 a.m. on January 1
    • The entrances on the south side of 49 St will be closed from noon on December 31 until 12:10 a.m. on January 1
    • Entrances on the north side of 49 St will remain open

    Planned service changes

    • The  runs along the  in both directions from Roosevelt Av to West 4
    • The  will run from Metropolitan Av to Chambers St during the day. (It will not go up 6 Av and Queens Blvd.)
    • Evenings, the  runs from Metropolitan Av to Essex St as usual
    • Late nights, the  runs from Metropolitan Av to Myrtle Av as usual

    NJ TRANSIT Holiday Rail Service & Savings for Christmas Holiday Week – Friday, December 18, 2020 to Monday, January 4, 2021

    Kids Ride Free on NJ TRANSIT from December 18 until January 4

    On Thursday, December 24 through Sunday, December 27, NJ TRANSIT Rail service will operate with some modifications for the Christmas holiday week as follows:

    Rail Christmas Service at a glance:

    • On Thursday, December 24, all trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
    • On Friday, December 25, all trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule, with bus service on the Gladstone Branch.
    • On Saturday, December 26, trains will operate on a weekend schedule.
    • On Sunday, December 27, trains will operate on a weekend schedule.

    NJ TRANSIT Rail Service for New Year’s Holiday – Thursday, December 31, 2020 to Friday, January 1, 2021

    Late Thursday evening, December 31, 2020 through early Friday, January 1, 2021, NJ TRANSIT will adjust rail service to accommodate late-night travel on New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day as follows.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:  NJ TRANSIT is prohibiting all beverages on all of its trains, buses and light rail vehicles on Thursday, December 31, 2020, and the early morning hours of Friday, January 1, 2021. This policy will be strictly enforced.

    Northeast Corridor

    • Train 3897 will depart New York at 12:29AM (rather than the normal departure time of 12:14AM).
    • Train 7801 will depart New York at 1:14AM (rather than the normal departure time of 12:43AM).
    • Train 7805 will depart New York at 1:59AM (rather than the normal departure time of 1:22 AM).

    North Jersey Coast Line

    • Train 7201 will depart New York at 12:43AM (rather than the normal departure time of 12:05AM).
    • Train 7205 will depart New York at 1:22AM (rather than the normal departure time of 1:00AM).
      • Train 7205 will connect with Bay Head Shuttle Train 4705, departing Long Branch at 3:04AM.

    Raritan Valley Line

    • Train 5401 will depart Newark Penn Station at 12:54AM (rather than the normal time of 12:29AM). Customers traveling from New York should use NEC Train 3897 to connect with RVL Train 5401.
    • Train 5503 will depart Newark Penn Station at 2:25AM (rather than the normal time of 1:28AM) (Customers traveling from New York should use NEC Train 7805 to connect with RVL Train 5503.

    Morris & Essex Lines

    • Train 6683 (which normally departs New York at 12:02AM) will NOT operate.
    • Train 6601 will depart New York at its normal time (12:56AM)
      • Customers traveling from Hoboken may take Main Line Train 1133 (departing Hoboken at 12:40AM on New Year’s morning) for a connection with Train 6601 at Secaucus.
    • Additional Train 6603 will depart New York at 1:36AM and make all stops to Dover except Mount Tabor.
      • Customers traveling from Hoboken may take Pascack Valley Line Train 2101 (departing Hoboken at 1:28AM early New Year’s morning) for a connection with Train 6603 at Secaucus.
    • There is NO extended late-night service to the Gladstone Branch. Train 453 – which departs Hoboken at 11:54PM on New Year’s Eve – is the last train of the night to Gladstone Branch stations.

    Montclair-Boonton Line

    • Train 6299 (which normally departs New York at 11:41PM) will NOT operate.
    • Train 6201 will depart New York at its normal time (12:34AM).
    • Additional Train 6203 will depart New York at 1:34AM and make all stops to Montclair State University.
      • Customers traveling from Hoboken can use Port Jervis Line Train 69 (departing Hoboken at 1:20 AM early New Year’s morning) for connection with Train 6203 at Secaucus.

    Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis:

    • Train 1133 will depart Hoboken at 12:40AM (rather than the normal departure time of 12:08AM).
    • Train 69 will depart Hoboken at 1:20AM (rather than the normal departure time of 12:40AM).
    • Train 1701 will depart Hoboken at 2:05AM (rather than the normal departure time of 1:32AM).

    Pascack Valley Line:

    • Train 2101 will depart Hoboken at 1:28AM (rather than the normal time of 12:45AM).
