Overview of Public Transport in Penang during Conditional Movement Control Order

As we entered the 5th phase of the Movement Control Order which had been announced as Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which had relaxed a lot of the regulations that had been implemented during the initial MCO, our Public Transport services had been on a gradual recovery to support the economic recovery after nearly 3 months of MCO which our economic activities had been brought to a total halt.

Here’s an overview of Penang’s Public Transport Services

1) Rapid Penang Buses

Stage bus services by Rapid Penang had return to pre-MCO services since 8th May 2020. However, bus captain may deny boarding of passenger if found not wearing face coverings (Mask covering mouth and nose).  Real-time arrivals are available on KTM Komuter & all Rapid Penang routes except BEST once the bus had started its journey.

2) MBPP Central Area Transit & Penang C.A.T. Buses

MBPP Central Area Transit (Jetty B – Komtar) and all 13 lines of Penang C.A.T free bus services will continue to be suspended until further notice

3) Rapid Ferry

Ferry services between Butterworth and Weld Quay will operate at 30 minutes intervals from the 2nd departure in the morning (6am from Butterworth & 6.30am from Weld Quay) until 9.30pm. Service will commerce hourly after 9.30pm until midnight.

4) KTM Komuter Utara Service

KTM will operate 16 trips across Padang Rengas Line & Padang Besar Line from 5th May until further notice. Departures are as follow
