Today, PRT is starting construction on the University line. The construction is forecasted to take 18 months and the project will add 5 stations to the Downtown Loop! Additionally, PRT will be adding sidewalks, ADA ramps, protected bike lanes, traffic signals, and landscaping.
For the initial phase of construction, Sept 13-Oct 17, construction will close Fifth Avenue westbound mid-block between Wood and Market Street to Liberty Avenue entirely. The remaining single eastbound lane will be closed entirely from Liberty to Market Street, with the traffic pattern changed to the westbound, or downhill direction, allowing westbound traffic and transit to be maintained. All eastbound traffic will be detoured.
