Transport details
Major road closures will be in place so leave the car at home and catch public transport to the 2017 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.
Plenty of extra trains and buses will be running but with huge crowds expected, services will be very busy. Plan ahead and allow plenty of extra travel time to make the most of your night.

- The closest train stations to the start of the parade are Central, Town Hall, Martin Place, and St James.
Getting there
- Sydney Trains services will run to a Saturday timetable with additional services to get you to the parade and home again.
- If you’re travelling from the Blue Mountains, extra services run to the city leaving from Lithgow at 14:07 and from Springwood at 14:59, 15:59, 16:29, 16:59 and 17:29.
- Please note that pedestrian crossing on the parade route will be managed until 18:00. From this time the parade route will be locked down and you will not be able to cross the road until the parade ends around 23:30. Ensure you head towards your preferred viewing side of the parade route before this time:
- Access to the northern side of the parade route use Town Hall, St James or Martin Place stations.
- Southern side use Central station.
- Note: Museum Station will be closed from 17:00 on Saturday until 04:00 Sunday. No trains will stop at the station during this time.
Getting home
- Additional late night services will run on all lines to help you get home after the celebrations.
- T1 Western, T1 Northern via Strathfield, T2 South, T2 Airport or Blue Mountains Line stations – go to Central Station
- Services to Richmond and Epping via Strathfield will run until 02:00.
- Additional services to the Blue Mountains will leave Central at 21:48 and 23:48, stopping at Strathfield, Lidcombe, Granville, Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, Emu Plains and then all stations to Lithgow. Additional services to Springwood leave at 21:01, 21:31, 21:59, 22:31 and 23:01.
- An additional Central Coast & Newcastle service will leave Central at 00:15, stopping at Strathfield, Eastwood, Epping, Hornsby and all stations to Hamilton. The 00:46 service from Central to Wyong will continue onto Hamilton, stopping all stations.
- Due to trackwork, all Intercity services will arrive and depart from Central Station suburban platforms.
- T1 North Shore Line and T1 Northern Line via Macquarie Park – go to Town Hall Station.
- Services to Gordon and services to Epping via Chatswood will run until 01:00.
- T3 Bankstown, T2 Inner West or T2 South Line stations – go to St James Station
- Services to Homebush run until 02:00 and services to Birrong run until 02:30.
- T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra or South Coast Line stations – go to Martin Place Station
- Services will run from Central to Bondi Junction until 03:00.
- An additional South Coast service to Kiama will leave at 23:59, stopping at Redfern, Wolli Creek, Hurstville, Sutherland, Waterfall and then all stations to Wollongong.
Trackwork
- Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network.
Sydney Buses
- Extra buses will run on major corridors in and out of the City between 15:00 until 03:00.
- Additional services will run from the Northern Beaches, North Shore via Miller Street and Pacific Highway, Inner West via Parramatta and City roads, Victoria Road, and the Eastern Suburbs. Make sure you plan ahead using the Trip planner.
- Bus diversions will affect a number of services in the Sydney CBD from as early as 15:00 as major road closures are put into place for the parade.
- Buses on Oxford Street will divert via Darlinghurst Road and William Street.
- Buses on Alison Road and Anzac Parade will divert via Cleveland Street and Chalmers Street.
- From around 17:00, the Route 440 Rozelle to Bronte service will be split into two routes running between Rozelle and Central, and Kings Cross and Bronte.
- From around 20:30 until around 00:30, many buses which would normally travel along Castlereagh and Elizabeth streets, will start and end their trips at Central instead.
Hillsbus
- Hillsbus will run additional services to the city on routes 610X, 607X and M61.
- Extra late night services will run back to the Hills from QVB on routes 610X, 607X and M61.
- Sydney Ferries services will run to a Saturday timetable. See ferry timetables.
- Ferry services are very popular, especially on weekends, and may reach capacity.
- Plan your trip ahead and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.
- Light rail services run between Central Station and Dulwich Hill with stops at popular CBD and Inner West destinations.
