November 25, 2025

Hello Bay Area travelers! 🦃🌉 With crisp air, cozy gatherings, and holiday adventures ahead, we’ve pulled together all the transit info you’ll need to glide around the region smoothly this Thanksgiving weekend.

Here’s what to expect from key transit agencies in the region:

    • San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (Muni / bus & rail)
On Thanksgiving Day, Muni will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.
On the Friday (day after Thanksgiving) it will return to a weekday schedule.

    • Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART)
On Thanksgiving Day (Thursday) BART will operate on a Sunday schedule (services approximately 8 a.m.–midnight) with all five lines until ~9 p.m., and three lines from 9 p.m.–midnight.
On Friday, regular weekday service returns.

    • SamTrans
SamTrans will use its Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day.
On the day after Thanksgiving (Friday), it will shift back to a regular weekday (non-school) schedule.

    • AC Transit
AC Transit designates that Sunday schedules are in effect on Thanksgiving Day.

    • Caltrain
On Thanksgiving Day, Caltrain will operate on a Weekend schedule
The day after (Friday) a “modified schedule” will be in place.

    • Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA)
      VTA’s bus routes: 20,26, 31, 37, 42, 51, 53, 83, 86, 87, 89, 568 will have no service on Thanksgiving Day. All other buses will operate on a Sunday Schedule.
On the day after Thanksgiving, routes resume weekday service except routes: 101,102, 103 and 121 – which will have no service.

    • Golden Gate Transit & Ferry
On Thanksgiving Day: bus service will be on a Weekend/Holiday schedule; ferry service is no service
The day after Thanksgiving: Holiday/Weekend schedule continues.

    Travel Tips

    • On Thanksgiving Day, treat most transit as operating a Sunday/holiday schedule: frequencies may be lower than regular weekday.

    • Use contactless fares or smart cards (Clipper, etc.) to speed up boarding.

    • Since schedules differ, plan ahead, especially for airline/travel connections (SFO, SJC) and cross-region trips.

    • For routes crossing agencies (e.g., East Bay → San Francisco, Peninsula → San Francisco), watch for last-minute updates or adjusted service.
