The Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and New York City Transit are the best ways to get to Veterans Day events, including the NYC Veterans Day Parade on Fifth Avenue, the Metro-North Veterans Day Ceremony in Grand Central Terminal, and various smaller events in the NYC suburbs on Nov. 11. Travel packages are also available on LIRR and Metro-North to Calverton National Cemetery and West Point Military Academy.
New York City Transit:
NYCT Subways and Staten Island Railway will operate on regular weekday schedules, while NYC Buses will operate on a school closed schedule, with express and limited service operating.
To help holiday weekend travelers flying in and out of LaGuardia Airport, the Q70 LaGuardia Link bus will be free starting today until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.

NYCT Subway will be the best way to travel to the 100th annual NYC Veterans Day parade. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with a moment of silence. At noon, a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Eternal Light monument and the parade then begins from Madison Square Park on the corner of 24th Street and Fifth Avenue, and goes north on Fifth Avenue from 26th Street to 46th Street.
Long Island Rail Road:
The LIRR will be operating on a regular weekday schedule on Veterans Day, with peak and off-peak fares in effect. However, reduced fare tickets for seniors, Medicare recipients and people with disabilities will be accepted on morning rush hour trains on Veterans Day.
Metro-North:
Metro-North will run a regular weekday service on Veterans Day and is the best way to travel to all Westchester, Hudson Valley and NYC parades. This includes the Metro-North Railroad Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. in Grand Central Terminal.
