When travelling on public transport you must wear a fitted face mask covering your nose and mouth and ensure you wear it for your entire journey.
Major works this winter
As part of Victoria’s Big Build, major works will continue in June, July and August to remove more than 20 dangerous and congested level crossings, including the Ferguson Street level crossing in Williamstown. The Metro Tunnel, Sunbury Line Upgrade and Regional Rail Revival projects on the Geelong, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines will also progress.
Critical maintenance works will also take place on our rail and tram networks to ensure services continue to run reliably. There’ll be disruptions to the public transport and road networks while these works take place. Be sure to plan ahead and allow extra time.
Metro Trains
Belgrave, Glen Waverley and Lilydale Lines
- Trains on the Belgrave, Glen Waverley and Lilydale lines will run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 9pm to last train each night from Sunday 8 August to Wednesday 11 August, due to infrastructure works.
Craigieburn and Werribee Lines
- Craigieburn and Werribee trains run direct to and from Southern Cross from 9pm to last train each night from Sunday 8 August to Wednesday 11 August, due to works.
Craigieburn Line
- Buses replace Craigieburn trains between Essendon and Broadmeadows stations from 9pm to last service on Tuesday 10 August, due to works.
Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines
- Trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines will only run to/from Caulfield Station from 1.30am Saturday 7 August to last train Sunday 8 August, due to works.
- Cranbourne and Pakenham trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, 9pm to last train each night from Monday 9 August to Wednesday 11 August, due to works.
- Buses replace Cranbourne and Pakenham trains between Westall and Cranbourne/Berwick stations from 8pm Friday 13 August to last service Sunday 15 August, due to works.
Frankston Line
- From Monday 2 August, Frankston Line trains will run express through Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach stations which are closed until November 2021. A combined station closure and community shuttle bus will operate between Mordialloc and Carrum to allow passengers to cross the rail line and to connect to Frankston Line trains.
- Buses replace trains between Mordialloc and Frankston stations 9pm to last service each night, Monday 2 August to Thursday 5 August, due to works.
Lilydale Line

Buses replace trains between Ringwood and Lilydale stations from 8.30pm Friday 6 August to last service Sunday 8 August, due to level crossing removal works.
- Mooroolbark station is closed from 8.30pm Friday 16 July to Sunday 24 October 2021 to allow for the construction of the new rail bridge and station. Further car park and station changes are in place until early 2022.
- Buses replace trains between Ringwood/Croydon and Lilydale at select times from Monday 19 July to Friday 30 September, due to level crossing removal works.
Mernda Line
- Buses replace trains between Clifton Hill and Mernda from 9pm to last service each night, Monday 9 August to Thursday 12 August due to works.
Pakenham Line
- Buses replace Pakenham trains between Dandenong and Pakenham from 10.30pm to 4.30am, on Wednesday 4 August and Thursday 5 August, due to works.
- Buses replace Pakenham trains between Dandenong and Pakenham from 10.30pm to 4.30am to last train each night on Friday 6 August and Saturday 7 August, due to works.
- Buses replace Pakenham trains between Dandenong and Pakenham from 10.30pm to last train each night on Wednesday 11 August and Thursday 12 August, due to works.
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace Sunbury line trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine stations from 8.45pm to last train each night from Sunday 8 August to Wednesday 11 August, due to works.
Upfield Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Upfield stations from 8.45pm to last train each night from Sunday 8 August to Wednesday 11 August, due to infrastructure works.
Werribee Line
- Buses replace trains between Newport and Werribee from 8.25pm to last train each night, Sunday 8 August to Wednesday 11 August, due to infrastructure works
Williamstown Line
- North Williamstown Station is closed from 8.30pm Monday 2 August to last service Friday 12 November to allow for project works.
V/Line
Border information
- You will need to apply for a permit to enter Victoria from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. Areas will be designated green, orange, red or extreme risk zones by the Chief Health Officer (CHO) based on public health advice.
Interstate V/Line Services
- Select V/Line train and coach services will be affected by updated service changes from Friday 16 July until further notice, due to state border restrictions.
Albury Line
- Coaches replace all trains for the entire journey on the Albury Line on Sunday 8 August, due to North East Rail Line Upgrade works.
Ararat, Ballarat and Maryborough Lines
- Coaches replace select evening trains on the Ballarat line for the entire journey from Thursday 5 August to Thursday 12 August, due to V/Line maintenance works.
Bairnsdale and Traralgon Lines
- Coaches will replace evening Traralgon trains for the entire journey from Wednesday 4 August to Saturday 7 August, due to Metro works.
- Select Bairnsdale and Traralgon train services to Southern Cross may experience minor delays on Saturday 7 August and Sunday 8 August, due to metro track works.
- Road coaches will replace evening Traralgon and Bairnsdale trains for all or part of the journey from Sunday 8 August to Friday 13 August, due to Metro works.
- Coaches will replace all Traralgon and Bairnsdale trains for part of the journey from the first service on Saturday 14 August until 9.20pm on Sunday 15 August, due to Metro works.
Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill Lines
- Temporary speed restrictions will be in place on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines from Monday 12 July until Thursday 5 August, to allow for new tracks to bed down.
Geelong Line
- Coaches replace select evening trains on the Geelong Line while works take place from Sunday 8 August to Tuesday 10 August, due to maintenance works.
Seymour Line
- Coaches will replace select evening trains on the Seymour Line for the entire journey on Tuesday 10 August 2021, due to V/Line maintenance works.
