Latest Travel Disruptions Update

February 12, 2024

    National Rail
Major disruption between Coventry and Rugby until at least the end of service today

Route(s) affected: Avanti West Coast between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central / Blackpool North / Wolverhampton and London Euston

London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Rugby / Northampton / Milton Keynes Central / London Euston: and also between Coventry and London Euston

    Description

A landslip between Coventry and Rugby means the line towards London Euston is blocked between these stations. The line in the opposite direction, from London Euston towards Birmingham New Street, is open allowing some train services to run.

As a result, trains may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

We anticipate disruption will continue until at least the end of service today.

    Avanti West Coast Customer Advice

Avanti West Coast services on their Birmingham route travelling towards London are being partially diverted via an alternative route and may be subject to cancellations and delays.

If you are travelling north from London to Birmingham, Avanti West Coast services are running via their usual route, but may be subject to short-notice delays.

You are strongly advised to check your journey before you travel.

You may use your ticket on the following services:

    • London Northwestern Railway / West Midlands Railway via any reasonable route

    • Transport for Wales between Wolverhampton and Birmingham International

    • Chiltern Railways between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone

    • CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Reading

    • Great Western Railway between Reading and London Paddington

    London Northwestern Railway Customer Advice

London Northwestern Railway train services will operate in both directions between London Euston and Northampton, and between Birmingham New Street and Coventry.

Road transport is operating between Coventry and Northampton via Rugby.

    Tickets will be valid on:

    • Avanti West Coast services between London Euston and Wolverhampton. Some trains may divert and not call at Coventry, Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street. Please note Avanti West Coast are also affected by this disruption.

    • London Northwestern Railway services to Crewe for connections with CrossCountry services at Nuneaton (for services to Coventry) and Tamworth (for services to Birmingham New Street)

    • West Midlands Railway services between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley.

    • West Midlands Railway services between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley.

    • Chiltern Railways services via any reasonable route

    • CrossCountry services via any reasonable route

    Additional Information:

One of the two tracks which connect Coventry and Rugby will remain closed while engineers cut back and clear vegetation from the railway embankment. This critical clearance work will help to understand the scale of the damage and to check that there is no risk of further landslips. Once this work has been completed, a full plan for repair will be confirmed.
