Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018

Hari-raya-puasa-2018

Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari Raya Puasa marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

It is the time of forgiveness as families gather together to remember loved ones who have passed, and offer their apologies for any wrongdoings committed over the past year, with the younger ones in the family asking for forgiveness from their elders.

On June 14, the Eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, train and bus services will extend hours until mid-night as usual. Details in the end.

Take public transportation and have some fun during the holiday.

What to do?

1. Have a feast tour at Geylang Serai Bazaar

Your most-loved night market is set up during the Ramadan season until 13 June. There is an array of dishes and snacks such as gorpis, Ramly Burgers, kebabs, vadai (fried snacks) and traditional Malay goodies, along with traditional Malay clothes and decorative items.

2. Visit Sultan Mosque

In the month of Ramadan, pop by the vicinity of this iconic mosque and visit the bustling afternoon bazaars teeming with local Malay delights.

3.  Learn a bit more of the holiday
Celebrating Hari Raya: Stories from the Community, the exhibition at the Singapore Flyer is until 18 June. It highlights the key features of the Hari Raya festival and personal stories from the community.

4. Enjoy the brightness from  Hari Raya Light Up 2018
Head over to Geylang Serai from now until 30 June to admire this year’s Hari Raya Light Up, themed “Celebrating our kampung spirit”. Expect more than 50 dazzling light installations inspired by Malay art and cultural icons such as a kampung house, sampan and mosque. There’ll be a series of performances, too, such as tarian (Malay dance).

5. Feel the festivity at Istana Kampong Glam

Celebrate Raya and soak in the festivities, with performances and programmes designed to teach more about the occasion, at Malay Heritage Centre’s annual open house on 23 June. On the same day, there is Carnival Didi & Friends @ Taman Warisan Melayu to sing and dance along.
