Caltrain - Weekend Shutdowns in Effect

February 8, 2023

February 11 & 12: No Train Service between Millbrae & San Francisco

    • Caltrain is doing rail construction and will have weekend shutdowns for the rest of 2023. A free lifeline bus bridge will be offered between Millbrae and San Francisco stations

    What is going on?

Caltrain Electrification, which will provide passengers with greener, faster, and more frequent service, is nearing its final phase as we anticipate electrified service to begin in 2024. However, in 2023, we need to do intensive work along the corridor to complete critical construction and testing activities. To minimize the impact on weekday service and to ensure the project is completed safely and on time.

Caltrain will be suspending rail service in select areas on weekends throughout the year starting February 11.

We strongly encourage riders to avoid Caltrain on the weekends, as lifeline bus bridge service is available to Caltrain-dependent riders.

Plan ahead, and if you must use Caltrain, expect delays and longer travel times. Consider alternative transportation options when service disruptions are expected. Weekday service is not impacted.

    Upcoming Weekend Service Changes

    February 11 & 12, February 25 & 26, March 4 & 5, March 11 & 12

Use alternative transportation options during these weekends. Customers traveling into/out of San Francisco should transfer to BART at Millbrae station.

Local weekend Caltrain service will be replaced with a lifeline bus bridges between Millbrae and San Francisco stations for Caltrain dependent riders. The weekend bus bridge will serve all stops between Millbrae and San Francisco stations with timed transit connections at Millbrae Station.

Buses will have limited capacity for luggage and bikes. Use bike parking options, which are available at every affected station. There will be one ADA accessible vehicle per trip. We encourage all passengers to plan ahead and use alternative transportation options when available.

If you are using a Clipper Card while traveling on both the bus bridge and rail service, please remember to tap your card at the Clipper® reader upon boarding the train and again upon exiting the train at your final destination. Caltrain customers using the bus bridge portion of their trip do not need to make an additional payment.

    • Plan for additional travel time of at least 45 minutes due to the bus bridge when traveling through the affected area.
    • The last northbound train will depart San Jose Diridon Station at 10:28p.
    • The last southbound bus will depart San Francisco Station at 11:13p.
    • The last southbound train will depart Millbrae Station at 12:15a.

There will be regular weekend Caltrain service on February 18 & 19.
