CSMT Junction in Mumbai to Get Makeover on Lines of New York’s Times Square
As part of the move, which aims at creating a safe zone for pedestrians and reducing road accidents, walking and resting zones is going to be developed in the area along with clearly delineated traffic lanes. According to Mumbai authorities, work on redesigning the CSMT junction and data compilation for the project has already begun.
Mumbai joins over 80 global cities and organisations that are taking back their streets with designs that put people first.
The existing facilities at the CSMT junction will be redesigned to create additional safer facilities for pedestrians, as they are the most vulnerable road users and separate lanes for vehicles will also be created. 19 traffic intersections in Mumbai, mainly PD’Mello Road, LBS Road and Belasis Road, to undergo improvements to reduce the risk of accidents.
