DC Metro Area Updates & Service Changes

    DC Metro 

    Here is a summary of Metrorail weekend service changes for Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9 to allow for safety and maintenance work:

    • Green Line trains operate regular weekend service
    • Free shuttle buses replace Red Line trains between Farragut North & Judiciary Sq, Sunday open until 2:00 p.m.
    • Free shuttle buses replace trains at Largo Town Center
    • Orange, Silver, Blue and Yellow Line trains operate every 24 minutes 10:00 p.m. Saturday until closing Sunday

    Red Line 

    Buses replace trains between Farragut North & Judiciary Sq, Sunday open until 2:00 p.m.

    • Red Line trains operate every 15 minutes between Shady Grove & Farragut North and Judiciary Sq & Glenmont.
    • Free shuttle buses will operate between Farragut North, Metro Center, Gallery Place and Judiciary Sq.Please allow an additional 10 minutes travel time per station stop.
    • Stations closed: Metro Center and Gallery Place (upper levels, Red Line only)
    • Work performed: Quarterly emergency response drill at Gallery Place

    Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. Riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.

    Note: There will be no elevator access to the Yellow and Green lines at Gallery Place during the drill.


    Orange Line 

    Regular daytime Saturday service; trains every 24 minutes Saturday night & all day Sunday

    • Saturday, 10:00 p.m. until closing Sunday, single tracking between Clarendon and East Falls Church to allow for installation of cable/communication equipment to support cellular service in tunnels and new radio system.

    Silver Line 

    Regular daytime Saturday service; trains every 24 minutes Saturday night & all day Sunday

    • Saturday, 10:00 p.m. until closing Sunday, single tracking between Clarendon and East Falls Church to allow for installation of cable/communication equipment to support cellular service in tunnels and new radio system.

    Blue Line

    Buses replace trains at Largo Town Center

    Blue Line trains operate between Franconia-Springfield and Morgan Boulevard all weekend. Service will operate:

    • Every 12 minutes on Saturday from system open until 10:00 p.m.
    • Every 24 minutes on Saturday from 10:00 p.m. until closing and all day Sunday.

    Free shuttle bus service provided between Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center. Please allow up to 15 minutes additional travel time.

    Saturday, 10:00 p.m. until closing Sunday, trains every 24 minutes between Franconia-Springfield and Morgan Boulevard. 

    • Station closed: Largo Town Center
    • Work performed: Grout pad renewal

    Yellow Line 

    Regular daytime Saturday service; trains every 24 minutes Saturday night & all day Sunday

    Yellow Line train service will operate:

    • Every 12 minutes, Huntington to Fort Totten Saturday from system open until 10:00 p.m.
    • Every 24 minutes, Huntington to Fort Totten Saturday from 10:00 p.m. until closing.
    • Every 24 minutes, Huntington to Mt Vernon Sq all day Sunday.

    Saturday, 10:00 p.m. until closing Sunday, single tracking between L’Enfant Plaza and Pentagon City to allow for grout pad, fastener and stud renewal. USers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq. must use the Green Line.
