Ekka 2023

    The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) is Queensland’s largest and most loved annual event which will happen from Saturday 12 August 2023 to Sunday 20 August 2023. Public transport is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to get to Ekka and this year there are some important changes to be aware of.

    • Due to the construction of Cross River Rail, the Exhibition station won’t be operating during Ekka in 2023.
    • You’ll still be able to catch a ride to the Ekka with public transport including buses to Herston busway station and trains to Fortitude Valley station.
    • An Ekka shuttle (route EK1) will run between Woolloongabba and Herston busway stations from 8.30am to 10.30pm each day, stopping at all stations so you’ll be able to connect from other train or bus services.

    South East (Cleveland)

    Bus

    • Catch the Ekka shuttle (route EK1) from Woolloongabba busway station to Herston busway station, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk to the show gates.
    • High-frequency buses are also available to and from Herston busway station.

    Train

    • Catch the train to South Bank station and transfer to the Ekka shuttle (route EK1) at South Bank busway station travelling to Herston busway station. From Herston station walk 550-metres or 7-minutes to the nearest show gate.
    • Another option is to catch the train to Fortitude Valley station and follow the Ekka signs direct to the show gates, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk.

    South (Beenleigh/Gold Coast)

    Bus

    • Catch the Ekka shuttle (route EK1) from South Bank busway station to Herston busway station, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk to the show gates.
    • High-frequency buses are also available to and from Herston busway station.

    Train

    • Catch the train to South Bank station and transfer to the Ekka shuttle (route EK1) at South Bank busway station travelling to Herston busway station. From Herston station walk 550-metres or 7-minutes to the nearest show gate.
    • Another option is to catch the train to Fortitude Valley station and follow the Ekka signs direct to the show gates, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk.

    West (Ipswich/Rosewood/Springfield Central)

    Bus

    • Catch a high-frequency bus to Herston busway station, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk to the show gates.

    Train

    • Catch the train to Roma Street station and transfer to the Ekka shuttle (route EK1) from Roma Street busway station platform 1 to Herston busway station. From Herston station walk 550-metres to the nearest show gate.
    • Another option is to catch the train to Fortitude Valley station and follow the Ekka signs direct to the show gates, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk.

    North-West (Ferny Grove)

    Bus

    • Catch a high-frequency bus to Herston busway station, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk to the show gates.
    • Another option is to catch a high-frequency bus to nearby RBWH station.

    Train

    • Catch the train to Fortitude Valley station and follow the Ekka signs direct to the show gates, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk*.

    *Travel from Bowen Hills station is still available.

    North/North-East (Sunshine Coast/Redcliffe Peninsula/Shorncliffe/Doomben)

    Bus

    • Catch a high-frequency bus to Herston busway station, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk to the show gates.
    • Another option is to catch a high-frequency bus to nearby RBWH station.

    Train

    • Catch the train to Fortitude Valley station and follow the Ekka signs direct to the show gates, which is only a 550-metre or 7-minute walk*.

    *Travel from Bowen Hills station is still available.

    Accessible transfers

    Accessible transfers will be available for customers with accessibility needs.

    From Herston busway station, an accessible transfer will be available on demand to take customers to show gate 5 between 8.30am and 10.30pm. See a staff member at the station during the Ekka to access this service.

    From Fortitude Valley station, an accessible transfer will be available from Brunswick Street to take customers to show gate 5 every 30 minutes between 8.30am and 9pm.

    Ticketing

    Make sure you have a valid public transport ticket when travelling to and from the Ekka.
