Jerusalem Light Rail Service Reduction Starting From 21.5.25 🚈

May 20, 2025

Dear riders,

As part of preparations for the launch of the Green Line of the Jerusalem Light Rail, infrastructure works will begin on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 (23 Iyar 5785), and are expected to last for approximately 14 weeks. These works aim to connect the new Green Line to the existing Red Line and upgrade the railway infrastructure along Jaffa Street.

Due to these infrastructure works, the Jerusalem Light Rail will operate in a reduced format for approximately 14 weeks.

During this period, the train will operate only between Neve Yaakov and Givat HaMivtar, and between Hadassah Ein Kerem and the Central Station.
On the southern segment (from Hadassah to the Central Station), the train will operate with a single car only.

Temporarily closed stations: Ammunition Hill, Shimon HaTzadik, Shivtei Yisrael, Damascus Gate, Municipality, Jaffa Center, Davidka, Mahane Yehuda, HaTurim.

Alternative service for passengers will be provided via the following bus lines:

🚌 Addition of Free Shuttle Services:

  • Line 500 (Superbus) – From Givat HaMivtar Station, via HaNevi’im Street, to the city center (Davidka Square and King George Street) and back.
  • Line 501 (Extra Jerusalem) – From Ammunition Hill Station, via HaNevi’im and Agripas Streets, to the Central Station and back (will not stop at City Hall).
  • Line 502 (Egged) – From the Central Station, via Agripas, HaNevi’im, and King George Streets to City Hall (Shivtei Yisrael) and back.
  • Line 503 (Superbus) – From Givat HaMivtar Station to City Hall (Shivtei Yisrael) and back.

🚌 Increased frequency of bus lines in the northern city:

  • Pisgat Ze’ev lines – 22 (Egged), 25 (Extra Jerusalem), 49 (Superbus), 65 (Extra Jerusalem), 66 (Extra Jerusalem), 540 (Superbus), 541 (Extra Jerusalem).
  • Beit Hanina and Shuafat – 274 (Egged).

🚌 Extension of regular lines operating in the southwestern city:

  • The following Egged lines — 20, 21, 24, 27, 29 — will be extended from southwest Jerusalem to the Central Bus Station area and the market.
  • Towards the Central Bus Station – The routes will be extended via Herzl Boulevard to Jaffa Street (opposite the Central Bus Station) and Shaarei Tzedek Street (near the Mahane Yehuda Market).
  • Towards Mount Herzl
    • From the station at the corner of Jaffa Street and Shaarei Tzedek, via the Central Bus Station (Station A2), Herzl Boulevard, and the streets Ish Shalom and Yefe Nof — to Mount Herzl, then continuing along the regular route.
  • Please note during this period:
    • Line 21 will not serve the Ramat Beit HaKerem neighborhood. It will start and end its route at Mount Herzl.
    • Alternative service for the light rail at Mount Herzl will be located at temporary stations on the side of the street, not adjacent to the light rail platforms.

Additional information about the alternative routes is available for you in the Trip Plan and Lines tabs in the Moovit app 📱🔍.
