LA – San Clemente Track Re-Opens and Service Changes

July 17, 2023

    Dear Mooviters,

Welcome to a new week! We have some great updates for you.

The San Clemente Line railroad track reopens today. It closed on June 5th due to a landslide. A temporary barrier was constructed to protect the tracks and today Metrolink and Amtrak are set to resume regular service!

    Here is Metrolink’s Update:

Starting Monday, July 17, Metrolink trains will resume their regular schedule to and from the Oceanside Station on the Orange County and Inland Empire-Orange County lines.

A temporary barrier wall to protect the tracks and passing trains from debris falling from the hillside above has been completed allowing Metrolink trains to safely resume full service through the San Clemente area. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner will also resume service.  Click here for Pacific Surfliner service details.

Tracks will remain closed through Sunday, July 16 with the following service levels:

        • Orange County Line:
          • All Orange County Line weekday trains will operate as scheduled between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station and Los Angeles Union Station, with no alternate transportation to or from San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente or Oceanside.
          • All Orange County Line weekend trains will operate as scheduled between the San Juan Capistrano Station and Los Angeles Union Station, with no alternate transportation.
        • Inland Empire-Orange County Line:
          • All Inland Empire-Orange County Line weekday trains will operate as scheduled between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and San Bernardino, with no alternate transportation to or from San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente or Oceanside.
          • All Inland Empire-Orange County Line weekend trains will operate as scheduled between San Juan Capistrano and San Bernardino, with no alternate transportation.

    Here is Amtrak’s Update:

Daily Pacific Surfliner service through San Clemente will resume starting Monday, July 17. Train-only trips between San Diego and Los Angeles are returning just in time for Comic-Con, the X Games California Finals, and the start of the Del Mar Racing Season.

Following the June 5 track closure, our partners took extraordinary steps to construct a temporary barrier wall to protect the tracks and passing trains from debris falling from the hillside above.

    Starting July 17:

        • Trains operating to and from San Diego will no longer require a bus connection between Irvine and Oceanside
        • 10 daily round trips will once again operate between Los Angeles and San Diego

NOTE:  On Monday, July 17, Train 761 will originate in Los Angeles instead of San Diego as we move equipment in place to resume our full schedule.
