LA 2025 Marathon Transit Guide

March 16, 2025

    Hi Mooviters,

The annual LA Marathon is this Sunday, March 16!

The race begins at Dodger Stadium and ends in Century City at the intersection of Avenue of the Stars and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Service Impacts: Many Metro routes will be partially detoured. The detours begin early Sunday morning with all of the detours ending throughout Sunday afternoon. Detours in DTLA will be the first to end.

    These Metro Bus Lines will have detours on Sunday: 2, 4, 10/48, 14/37, 16, 18, 20, 28, 30, 33, 40, 45, 53, 55, 60, 62, 70, 76, 78, 81, 90, 92, 94, 96, 105, 106, 180, 182, 204, 206, 207, 210, 212, 217, 218, 222, 224 (Owl), 233 (Owl), 460, 602, 603, 617, 720, 754, 761 and the J Line.

The following BBB lines will be detoured: Route 1, Route 2, Route 8, Route 12, Route 14, Route 17 and Route 18.

LA Metro will be posting signage at all bus stops letting you know the nearest stop to catch your bus. Descriptions of all detour routes are here — click on the ‘BUS’ tab and then click on ‘Upcoming’ to see the detours.

Here are a few tips to help you get around on Sunday:

•Allow extra time if riding one of the bus lines that will be detoured on Sunday and plan on encountering extra car traffic on roads nearest to the marathon course.

•LA Metro Rail A, B, D & E Lines may be good alternatives to riding the bus! Rail service is not impacted by the marathon.

•Metro Bus Lines 2 (which runs on Sunset Boulevard) and 4 (which runs on Santa Monica Boulevard) are the most heavily impacted by the race and best avoided if you don’t want to deal with detours.

•To avoid the closure of Hollywood Boulevard for the race that will impact Lines 180 and 217, please consider taking the B Line between the following stations: Hollywood/Western, Hollywood/Vine and Hollywood/Highland.

•If riding LA Metro bus lines that run in a north-south direction, try to start or end trips south of Santa Monica Boulevard to avoid detours.

•Many of the detoured bus lines will return to their regular routes once the race completely passes through that part of town. With the race beginning in downtown Los Angeles that means detours will lift first in DTLA.

•Detoured lines will try to make stops at all intersections where it is safe to do so while on a detour route.

Getting to and from the marathon for racers and fans

•If you want to watch the race in DTLA, three Metro Rail stops are a short walk to the course: the B/D Lines’ Civic Center/Grand Park Station, the A and E Lines’ Historic Broadway Station and the A and E Lines’ Little Tokyo/Arts District Station.

•The LA Marathon is running a free shuttle bus from Union Station to the race start line at Dodger Stadium. From the marathon’s website:

    • Pick-up location: Bay 9 at Patsaouras Transit Plaza
    • Shuttle Times: 5:00 am, 5:30 am, 6:00 am
    • Shuttles are free, but it is recommended you reserve a time.
    • There are NO shuttles back to Union Station after the race
    • Please make your shuttle reservation during online registration. If you did not make your shuttle reservation online or wish to change shuttles, please log into your Haku account here

After the race: for those who want to ride transit to get home or back to your car, the nearest Metro Rail station to Century City is the E Line’s Westwood/Rancho Park Station. Ride Culver City Bus Line 3 southbound from Century Park East & Olympic to Westwood/Rancho Park. Another option: from Avenue of the Stars & Olympic, Big Blue Bus Line 7 westbound runs to the E Line’s Expo/Sepulveda Station.
