London weekend travel: service changes (Friday 9 – Thursday 15 October)

October 8, 2026

Planned engineering and maintenance work will affect several Tube, Overground, Elizabeth line and DLR services this weekend, and some bus routes will be diverted around events in central London and Wembley. Here’s what to expect so you can plan ahead.

    London Underground

Circle line (Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 October): Trains will not run between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria because of track work. Use other Tube lines or local buses.

District line (Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 October): No trains between Edgware Road/Tower Hill and Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond and Wimbledon because of track work. Use other Tube lines, the Mildmay line, the Elizabeth line or local buses. Piccadilly line trains will also skip Turnham Green during this closure.

Going to Stamford Bridge on Saturday? Take the Piccadilly line to Earl’s Court and continue on foot. You can also take the Mildmay line to West Brompton or Imperial Wharf, which links to National Rail at Clapham Junction (south) and the Central line at Shepherd’s Bush (north).

Piccadilly line (Friday night 9 into Saturday 10 October): During the Night Tube, trains will not stop at Earl’s Court from 03:15 to 05:45. Use Night Buses to or from Hammersmith or South Kensington.

    London Overground

All of the following closures are for Network Rail maintenance.

    Suffragette line (Sunday 11 October):

    • No trains between Gospel Oak and Barking before 09:45 or after 23:00. Use the Tube or local buses.
    • No trains between Barking and Barking Riverside all day. Use bus route EL1.

    Weaver line:

    • Sunday 11 October: The whole line is closed until 10:15.
    • Monday 12 to Thursday 15 October: No trains between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/Cheshunt after 22:45 each night.
    • On both, use the Tube or local and replacement buses.

Windrush line (Sunday 11 October): No trains between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction. Trains will terminate at Battersea Park instead. To get between Battersea Park and Clapham Junction, use local buses or Southern trains.

    Elizabeth line

Sunday 11 October: No trains between West Drayton and Slough until 09:00 because of Network Rail work. Use National Rail or local and replacement buses.

    DLR

Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 October: No trains between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal because of maintenance. Use the Tube or local buses.

    Buses

Buses may be delayed, diverted, or end short of their usual destination at these times:

    • Saturday 10 October, central London: Bus diversions from 12:00 to 18:00 for a march from Victoria Embankment to Whitehall, which passes Westminster Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and the Strand.
    • Saturday 10 October, central London: Bus diversions from 15:00 to 18:00 for a procession from St George’s Cathedral in Southwark to Westminster Cathedral, which passes Lambeth Bridge, Millbank and Parliament Square.
    • Sunday 11 October, Wembley: Road closures and bus diversions from 05:00 to 14:00 for a 10k run around Wembley Park and the stadium.
    • Sunday 11 October, central London: Road closures and bus diversions from 09:00 to 14:00 for a half-marathon starting and finishing in Hyde Park. The route includes The Mall, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Parliament Square.
    • Brent Cross area, until Friday 20 November: Safety works on the A41 and A406 mean buses still serve the area, but journeys may be slower. Some buses may be diverted during overnight closures.

Event traffic around major venues, including stadiums, The O2, ExCeL and Wembley Arena, may also slow buses nearby before and after events.

    Santander Cycles

These docking stations are suspended this weekend:

    • Camley Street (Camden Town)
    • Guildhouse Street (Victoria)
    • Marylebone Lane (Marylebone)

Plans can change at short notice, so check Moovit for live arrivals and alternative routes before you travel.
