BART Reinstates Mask Requirement

May 1, 2022

Face masks are now required on BART through July 18, 2022.

This decision was made on April 28, 2022, by the BART Board of Directors following the rescindment of the national TSA mask mandate 10 days prior, on Monday, April 18.

While BART is requiring masks, other transit agencies in the Bay Area strongly recommend, but don’t require masks.

Free masks are available at BART station agent booths and from all safety staff for those who need one.

BART PD will continue its education-based enforcement of the mask requirement by offering free masks to anyone who needs one before taking any enforcement action which could include a citation of up to $75 or being ejected from the paid area.
