Metro will make service changes to 26 Metrobus routes starts today, December 15, 2024. In the District of Columbia, new service and changes will prepare for the launch of Better Bus in 2025 and add capacity to accommodate DC Circulator customers. In Maryland and Virginia, routes will change in response to long-term construction projects in Prince George’s and Arlington counties. The changes will improve on-time performance and continue to drive customer satisfaction and ridership.
Highlights include:
- In the District of Columbia, launching the new Route C25 between Anacostia and Stanton Road SE, extending service from Georgetown to Union Station, and adding service on 14th Street NW to support the future launch of Better Bus;
- In Maryland, serving a new bus loop at New Carrollton in response to Maryland Transit Administration Purple Line construction; and,
- In Virginia, updating the Columbia Pike 16-series routes to operate along a new segment of Columbia Pike near the Air Force Memorial.

District of Columbia
31, 33 Wisconsin Avenue
- Route 31 will change to operate during weekday rush hours only. Trips outside of weekday rush hours will instead operate as Route 33.
- Route 33 will be extended to serve Union Station instead of Federal Triangle, providing a frequent, daily connection between Wisconsin Avenue, Georgetown, and Union Station via H and I (Eye) streets and Massachusetts Avenue NW. Service will operate every seven to eight minutes during weekday rush hours, every 10 minutes on weekdays outside of rush hour and weekends; and every 20 minutes overnight.
38B Ballston-Farragut Square 14th Street
- The weekend-only trips between Farragut Square and Rosslyn that began in October will be added to bus tracking systems and signs.
52, 54 14th Street
- Additional trips will operate along 14th Street between Metro Center and Colorado Avenue NW to improve frequency and accommodate additional customers.
C25 Stanton Road-Anacostia
- New daily service will operate between Stanton Road SE, Pomeroy Road SE, and Anacostia. In the future, service will be further extended with the implementation of Metro’s Better Bus project.
D6 Sibley Hospital-Stadium Armory
- In response to ridership, an additional eastbound trip from MacArthur Boulevard will operate when school is in session.
Schedule Adjustments
- New schedules will reflect trip and travel time adjustments to improve service for customers on routes M6, N2, and N4.
Maryland
G12 Greenbelt-New Carrollton
- At Doctors Community Hospital, buses will operate via the roadway east of the parking garage instead of Mallery Drive to Good Luck Road. This change will not impact the hospital stop location.
New Carrollton Station
- To accommodate Maryland Transit Administration Purple Line construction, new routing at the temporary west side bus loop at New Carrollton Station will be added to bus tracking systems and signs.

16A, 16C, 16E Columbia Pike
16M Columbia Pike-National Landing
- Route information and bus tracking systems will be updated to show service along a new segment of Columbia Pike between South Nash and South Joyce streets near the US Air Force Memorial.
REX Richmond Highway Express
- All trips will enter and exit Fort Belvoir via Tulley Gate and Pohick Road to and from Richmond Highway.
