First launch with Visa, more card options on its way
In the first phase, Visa/MasterCard/UnionPay contactless credit cards or debit cards are accepted for paying MTR fares.
Note: Only credit cards or debit cards with a near-field communication (NFC) antenna plus a Contactless Indicator shown on the card are compatible for tapping in and out the gates for MTR rides.
Use the Light Blue gates for tapping in and out
Use the “Light Blue gates” and tap your contactless credit card, debit card, or any payment-enabled device, such as mobile phones or smartwatches, at the designated processor with a Contactless Symbol.
Support other payment-enabled devices
In addition to physical contactless credit card and debit card, the gates also accept multiple payment-enabled devices, such as mobile phones or smartwatches, for paying MTR fares. More choices for smart travel!
Things to note:
- Contactless Bank Card fare is the same as Adult Octopus fare. Other fares (e.g. Child/Concessionary/Elderly, etc.) are not applicable.
- Other fare concessions by MTR and the Government’s Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme are not applicable to Contactless Bank Card.
- MTR rides that interchange at Tsim Sha Tsui station/East Tsim Sha Tsui station will be considered as two separate single journeys and be charged separately.
