Unfortunately the track renewal in the Lindwurm-/Müllerstraße area takes longer than planned: The construction works will now be completed on Sunday, 10 February 2019.
The affected tram lines will continue to operate mostly according to the current operating concept until the end of the project. The only change is that the section Central Station – Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor will be served by tram 16 instead of tram 17 from Sunday, 9 December 2018. The network maps as well as the announcements in the vehicles will be updated shortly.
Tram 16 runs on the shortened route Romanplatz – Central Station – Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor. In the east substitution tram 36 serves the section Isartor – Maxmonument – Lehel – Tivolistraße – Effnerplatz (- St. Emmeram).
To bypass the suspended section please use S-Bahn services between Central Station or Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Isartor or U4 / U5 to / from Lehel.
The stops at Müllerstraße and Reichenbachplatz can be reached as follows:
- Müllerstraße: Replacement bus 18 from Karlsplatz (Stachus) or Sendlinger Tor
- Reichenbachplatz: Bus routes 52 and 62 from Sendlinger Tor, alight at “Blumenstraße” (approx. 3-5 min. walk from there)
Tram 17 runs on the shortened route Amalienburgstraße – Romanplatz – Central Station and continues as tram 18 via Trappentreustraße and Westendstraße to Gondrellplatz. In the east substitution tram 37 serves the section Isartor – Max-Weber-Platz – Effnerplatz – St. Emmeram.
To bypass the suspended section please use S-Bahn services between Central Station and Isartor or U4 / U5 to / from Max-Weber-Platz.
The stops between Central Station and Isartor can be reached as follows:
- Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Sendlinger Tor: Tram 16 from Central Station
- Müllerstraße: Replacement bus 18 from Karlsplatz (Stachus) or Sendlinger Tor
- Reichenbachplatz: Bus routes 52 and 62 from Sendlinger Tor, alight at “Blumenstraße” (approx. 3-5 min. walk from there)
Tram 18 runs on the shortened route Gondrellplatz – Westendstraße – Trappentreustraße – Central Station and continues as tram 17 via Romanplatz to Amalienburgstraße. The section Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor – Ostfriedhof – Giesing Bf. – Schwanseestraße is served by replacement bus 18.
Please use tram lines 16 and 19, U4 / U5 and S-Bahn services between Central Station and Karlsplatz (Stachus) or U2 and S-Bahn lines S3 and S7 to / from Giesing Bf. as well.
Tram lines 36 and 37 replace tram lines 16 and 17 in the eastern section between St. Emmeram / Effnerplatz and Isartor. Tram lines 16 and 17 start at Sendlinger Tor (16) respectively at Central Station (17).
Please use U4 between Arabellapark / Max-Weber-Platz / Lehel and Karlsplatz (Stachus) / Central Station or S-Bahn services from Isartor to bypass the closed section.
The stops at Reichenbachplatz and Müllerstraße can be reached as follows:
- Reichenbachplatz: footpath along Rumfordstraße (approx. 600 m)
- Müllerstraße: Replacement bus 18 from Karlsplatz (Stachus)
Nightline N17 runs on the shortened route Amalienburgstraße – Romanplatz – Central Station – Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor. The section Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor – Isartor – Max-Weber-Platz – Effnerplatz is served by replacement bus N17.
Between the tram and replacement bus N17 please change at Karlsplatz (Stachus) as the mutual connection will be guaranteed there. The departure stop of the replacement services is located there at Karlsplatz / Bayerstraße / Prielmayerstraße junction, in front of Hotel Königshof (from the mezzanine level please use exit J, from Thursday, 27 December 2018 exit K).

Nightline N27 runs on the shortened route Petuelring – Kurfürstenplatz – Pinakotheken – Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor. The section Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Sendlinger Tor – Ostfriedhof is served by replacement bus N27, the section Ostfriedhof – Wettersteinplatz – Theodolindenplatz – Großhesseloher Brücke by substitution tram N15.
Please change at Karlsplatz (Stachus) between tram and the replacement bus N27 as the mutual connection will be guaranteed there. The departure stop of the replacement services is located at Karlsplatz / Bayerstraße / Prielmayerstraße junction (from the mezzanine level please use exit J, from Thursday, 27 December 2018 exit K).
At Ostfriedhof the replacement buses towards Karlsplatz (Stachus) depart from the regular inbound tram stop at St.-Bonifatius-Straße, substitution tram N15 departs from the stop of tram 25 to Grünwald at Tegernseer Landstraße.
