On Tuesday 28 May, the unions announced a 24-hour strike for public transport in the Netherlands. This applies to Dutch Railways, city and regional transport.
We advise you to avoid travelling by bus, tram, metro or train on Tuesday. There will be very limited service at best, and possibly no service at all, from Tuesday 28 May 03:00 (night of Monday into Tuesday) to Wednesday 29 May 01:00 (night of Tuesday into Wednesday).
A summary of what this means in practice is listed below.
Nederlandse Spoorwegen – NS

As a result of industrial action across the entire public transport sector, there will be very limited or no train services throughout the country on Tuesday 28 May. As we do not have full visibility of who will join the industrial action, we are unable to plan a robust and reliable timetable. Where possible we will run trains. However this will be limited and unpredictable. From 05.00 AM to 21.00 PM there will be a limited train service between Amsterdam Centraal and Schiphol Airport. We regrettably advise passengers not to travel by train on Tuesday May 28th. On Wednesday May 29, train traffic could still be affected by the aftermath of this industrial action.

Tram, bus, metro
Tuesday 28 May 03:00 (night of Monday into Tuesday) to Wednesday 29 May 01:00 (night of Tuesday into Wednesday), no trams, buses, or metro will be in service. In addition, the Gelderlandplein routes 461, 463, 464, and 465, and the Riekerpolder routes 68 and 267 will not be in service.
Wednesday morning, day services will restart as usual. This also applies to the early Schiphol routes 345, 246, and 247, and the early bus 69 route.
Night bus
The night buses will be service in the night of Monday into Tuesday as usual, but the timetable will end at about 03:00. The details are still being worked out.
The work to close and reopen the IJ tunnel (see IJ ferries) will require night buses 291 and 293 to be diverted and not use the IJ tunnel.
In the night of Tuesday into Wednesday, the night buses will be in service as usual. In addition, night buses 291 and 293 will be diverted due to the IJ tunnel closure.

IJ ferries
The IJ ferries will not be in service between Tuesday 28 May 02:00 (night of Monday into Tuesday) and Wednesday 29 May (night of Tuesday into Wednesday).
Tuesday 28 May 04:00 to Wednesday 29 May 01:00, slow traffice can use the west part of the IJ tunnel (the part normally for the city center direction).
Noordzeekanaal ferries
The Noordzeekanaal, Velser, and Buitenhuizer ferries crossing the Noordzeekanaal (canal) will not be in service from Tuesday 28 May 00:00 to Wednesday 29 May 00:00.
De uitslag van het kort geding inzake het niet varen van de Velserpont is maandag 27 mei bekendgemaakt: de Velserpont hoeft niet te varen en staakt dus op de 28e.
CONNEXXION

Connexxion will try to keep certain bus lines in Amstelland-Meerlanden running as much as possible. This will not be in the frequency you are used to from us. We will try to run the following bus lines:
- R-net lines: 300, 340 (not to and from Mijdrecht!) 341, 346, 397, 347, 357
- Schiphol bus network: 180, 181, 185, 190, 191
- Night lines: We expect that, in the night of 28 to 29 May, the night lines will be available.

During the strike the IJ-tunnel will most likely be closed for all vehicles (except slow traffic, see below). This means that EBS buses cannot depart from or arrive at Amsterdam Centraal Station.
If service is at all available, our buses can only drive from/ to Amsterdam Noord.
IJ-ferries and IJ-tunnel
The IJ ferries will not be in service between Tuesday 28 May 02:00 (night of Monday into Tuesday) and Wednesday 29 May (night of Tuesday into Wednesday).
Tuesday 28 May 04:00 to Wednesday 29 May 01:00, only slow traffic can use the west part of the IJ tunnel (the part normally for the city center direction).
Rotterdam and surrounding

For RET travelers, this means that there are no trams, buses and subways. The Hoekse Lijn Replacement Transport is also not running. The strike is from start of service to end of service on May 28.
Local transport and Dutch Railways
Local transport operators and Dutch Railways also stopped this day. Bus transport to metro stations, for example, will be canceled. There is also a strike at the Dutch Railways. Trains to and from the RET network do not run.
Stations and shops
The RET metro stations are closed during the strike. Shops that have an entrance in the metro stations are also closed this day. If the entrance to a store is outside of a metro station, it is open.

HTM bus drivers and tram drivers are also taking part in this strike. That means that all buses and trams of HTM do not run this day. Other urban and regional transport operators also stopped this day. Very limited to no train traffic will be possible. The public transport strike lasts from beginning of service to end of service on Tuesday, May 28.
