It’s time to bid farewell and welcome the new
It is confirmed. From 1st January 2021 onwards, the iconic double-decker ferry that had served Penang for the last 4 decades will cease from taking pedestrians across the Penang Straits.
The service will be replaced by passenger-only catamarans that can carry up to 200 passengers at a time, and take less time to complete the journey across the straits.
The service will now change to Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal from the Island side while there will be no change of service location on the Butterworth side.
Here’s a video from Penang Port on how you can find your way to the Ferry Service on the island side.
Apart from this, Penang Port, the new operator of Penang Ferry Service had also announced that from 1st January 2021 to 14th January 2021, the ferry service will be free for all pedestrians!
