πŸ“’ May Bank Holiday & Major Rail Upgrades

April 30, 2026

Significant service changes will affect Manchester, Liverpool, and the wider North West from tomorrow (Friday, May 1st) through the Early May Bank Holiday weekend. Major engineering works at Liverpool Lime Street and capacity restrictions at London Euston will be the biggest factors.

πŸš‰ Rail: Major Disruptions & Engineering
    • Liverpool Lime Street (Sun 3 – Mon 4 May):

      • Closure: Key lines into Lime Street will be closed for upgrades on Sunday and into Monday morning.

      • Impact: Mainline services (Avanti, Northern, TPE) will be heavily disrupted. Only Merseyrail services are expected to operate to/from the station during this window. Check for rail replacement buses if traveling long-distance.

    • Manchester & West Coast Main Line:

      • Euston Restrictions: Services to/from London Euston will run on a reduced schedule all weekend due to limited line capacity. Expect Manchester-London trains to be busier than usual.

      • Timetable Changes: Northern Rail has targeted adjustments starting this month; check your specific route on the app as some trains now depart several minutes earlier to improve punctuality.

🐝 Manchester & The Bee Network
    • Bank Holiday Monday (4 May): All Bee Network buses and Metrolink trams will operate on a Sunday Timetable.

    • Nitelink: Full Nitelink service will run on Friday (1 May) and Saturday (2 May). There is no Nitelink service on Sunday night.

    • Metrolink: Expect increased crowds on Saturday, May 2nd, as Manchester United Women host Brighton at Old Trafford (12:00 KO).

    ⛴️ Liverpool & Merseytravel
    • Bank Holiday Monday (4 May): A Sunday Timetable will operate on all bus services across Merseyside.

    • Recent Route Changes (Permanent):

      • Routes 79C, 82A, and X4: Now back to their original routes following the reopening of the Northern Busway.

      • Route 61: Re-timed between St Chads and Halton Hospital.

    • St Helens: Remember that St Helens Bus Station remains closed for redevelopment; service 10A continues to follow its diverted route.
