1. Major Concerts & Music Events Travel Advice
A series of high-profile music events will see significantly increased passenger volumes across the regional transport network this weekend:
Sounds of the City (Castlefield Bowl): Running tonight (Thursday 2 July) through the weekend.
Transit Advice: Attendees are highly encouraged to use public transport. The Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop is a short six-minute walk from the venue. Metrolink services are operating a regular, frequent pattern from the city centre, East Didsbury, and Eccles.
Driving & Parking: Drivers can bypass central congestion by utilising any of the 16 free Metrolink Park and Ride sites to complete their journey via tram.
Co-op Live Arena (Kings of Leon – Saturday 4 July): Expect heavy traffic and busy services around the Etihad Campus.
Road Closure Warning: An emergency one-way closure remains active on Alan Turing Way. Traffic is being diverted via Pin Mill Brow, Great Ancoats Street, Every Street, and Ashton New Road. Drivers should expect substantially longer journey times.
Alternative Walking Route: For those arriving via rail, the arena is a well-lit and signposted 25-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station via the CityLink route.
2. Metrolink Early Morning Closure (Sunday 5 July)
Impact: Track repair works will take place at Manchester Victoria on Sunday 5 July from the start of service until 10:00 AM.
Service Alteration: No trams will operate through Victoria station during this window.
Alternative Transit: A dedicated replacement bus service will run between Victoria and Piccadilly until approximately 11:00 AM to facilitate passenger transfers. Normal tram services will resume fully after 10:00 AM.
3. National Rail Disruption via Manchester
Manchester Piccadilly Approach: Ongoing track renewals near the approach to Manchester Piccadilly will cause amendments to select local routes this weekend.
Northern Rail Replacements: Rail replacement buses will completely swap out train services between Manchester Piccadilly and Bolton, as well as between Manchester Victoria and Wigan North Western (via Walkden).
Blackpool Diversions: Trains travelling to and from Blackpool North will be diverted via Wigan North Western, bypassing Chorley and Bolton entirely.
