We have put together this Christmas Transit Guide which includes the service schedules and changes for your top agencies in the Greater New York Area.

Christmas Service by Agency
- MTA Subway
- MTA will operate Regular service on Christmas Eve and Sunday service on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25th.
- MTA Bus
- On Tuesday, Dec. 24, bus routes in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan and some bus routes in Queens are operating on a reduced weekday schedule, while other routes in Queens are operating a regular weekday schedule. Buses on Staten Island will operate on a weekday schedule.
- On Wednesday, Dec. 25, buses in all five boroughs will run on a Sunday schedule.
- LIRR
- LIRR will operate Regular service on Christmas Eve, and Sunday service on Christmas Day.
- MNR
- Beginning Monday, Dec. 23, Metro-North will operate on a Friday schedule on the three East of Hudson lines, with extra mid-day and mid-afternoon service. On Christmas Day, Metro-North will operate hourly service with regular weekend service on the Wassaic, Danbury and Waterbury branches.
- On the West of Hudson Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines, Metro-North will operate on a regular weekday schedule each day with some service adjustments on Christmas Eve and a weekend schedule on Christmas Day.
- NJ Transit
- December 24th, Christmas Eve:
- Rail – Early Getaway service from Penn Station New York, Newark Penn and Hoboken Terminal
- Bus – Most lines on a weekday or special holiday schedule. Check timetables in Moovit’s line view.
- Light Rail – Newark Light Rail will operate on a Sunday schedule, River LINE will operate on a Sunday schedule, HBLR will operate on its Saturday/Sunday/Holiday schedule.
- December 25th, Christmas:
- Rail – Weekend/Holiday schedule (with Port Jervis Line Train 88 operating)
- Bus – Most lines on a Sunday schedule or modified Sunday schedule. Select routes will not operate. Check timetables in Moovit’s line view.
- Light Rail – Newark Light Rail will operate on a Sunday schedule, River LINE will operate on a Sunday schedule, HBLR will operate on its Saturday/Sunday/Holiday schedule
- December 26th – 31st:
- December 26, 27, 30 and 31 trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule with certain Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line morning peak period trains canceled and additional late morning trains operating on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines.
- On December 26 only, the Nos. 58, 59, 65, 66, 102, 109, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, and 116 bus lines will operate on holiday or special schedules.
- December 27, 30 and 31 buses and light rail lines will operate on a weekday schedule. Select PABT bus routes will have more frequent service operating inbound to PABT on some lines during the late morning hours and outbound from PABT during the early and late evening hours. - On December 28 and 29, trains and buses will run on a normal weekend schedule.
- December 24th, Christmas Eve:
- JFK Airtrain
- JFK Airtrain will operate regular service on Christmas Day.
- PATH
- On Christmas Day PATH will operate a Modified Saturday Schedule
- Journal Square-33 Street (via Hoboken) and Newark-World Trade Center lines in service.
- The following agencies will operate weekend service on Christmas Day:
- CT Transit
- NICE
- Suffolk County Transit
- Staten Island Railway
- Staten Island Ferry
- Greater Bridgeport Transit
- Transport Of Rockland (Lines 59, 91, 93, and Loop 3 operate Sunday service. Lines 94, 95, and 97 do not operate. Loop 1 and 2 operate weekday service.)
- Norwalk Transit District
- Shore Line East
- The following agencies will have no service on Christmas Day:
- Bee-Line Bus
- Suffolk County Transit
- LANTA
- Dutchess County Public Transit
- HART
- Housatonic Area Regional Transit
