NYE 2026: Extended Services in Macau

December 30, 2025

Planning to ring in the New Year at the Sai Van Lake countdown or the Cotai Strip? To ensure everyone gets home safely after the festivities, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) and Macao LRT have announced extended service hours and special traffic arrangements for the night of December 31.

🚇 Macao LRT (Taipa Line Extension)

The LRT is the most reliable way to travel between Taipa and the Barra station in the Peninsula during the countdown.

    • Extended Service: Last trains on all routes will depart at 2:00 AM on January 1.

    • Frequency: Trains will run every 7.5 to 10 minutes during peak celebration hours.

    • Free Wi-Fi: Starting midnight on Jan 1, a one-hour free Wi-Fi trial will begin at Barra and Hengqin stations.

🚌 Bus Service & Special Routes

Both TCM and Transmac will extend hours for dozens of daytime routes and increase frequency for night buses (N-series).

    • Extended Daytime Routes: Major routes (such as 21, 25B, 51X) will extend their last departures until 1:00 AM or 2:00 AM.

    • Special Service (25BS): A special shuttle will operate from 10:00 PM (Dec 31) to 1:00 AM (Jan 1) to connect major Cotai resorts with residential areas.

    • Frequency Boost: Night buses N1A, N1B, N2, and N3 will run at higher frequencies to handle the post-midnight surge.

⚠️ Road Closures & Traffic Control

Significant closures will be implemented in two main areas:

    1. Macau Peninsula (Sai Van Lake Area)

    • Time: From 8:00 PM until the crowd disperses.

    • Closures: Rua da Torre de Macau, Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van, and parts of the Sai Van Bridge (depending on crowd density).

    • Bus Stops: Several stops around Sai Van Lake Square will be suspended; please use the Barra LRT Station or temporary stops on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.

    2. Cotai Strip (Resort Area)

    • Time: From 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

    • Closures: Sections of Estrada do Istmo (Cotai Strip) near The Londoner, The Parisian, and Studio City.

    • Diversions: Buses will bypass the “Le Jardin” and “Londoner” stops. Passengers should use the Cotai West or Lotus LRT stations.

    💡 Commuter Tips

    1. Skip the Bridge Traffic: If traveling between the Peninsula and Taipa, use the LRT (Barra to Taipa) to avoid the inevitable gridlock on the Nobre de Carvalho (Old) and Sai Van Bridges.

    2. Ferry Travelers: If arriving from Hong Kong late at night, ensure you have pre-booked your return ferry as night sailings sell out quickly on NYE.

    3. Live Updates: Use the Moovit App for real-time bus arrivals and plan your journey.

Happy New Year from the Moovit Team! 🇲🇴
