🎄 Holiday Schedule Updates: Many agencies are offering alternative service for Christmas and New Year’s. As always, Moovit is updated. Plan your travels with our trip planner. We have also compiled a list of your favorite agencies below.
🚌 Real-Time Arrivals: Traveling during the Holiday season can be hectic but Moovit helps you stay informed with Real-Time arrival updates that let you know exactly when your bus/train/subway is arriving.

Christmas & New Year’s Service by Agency
- Muni
- Muni will run Sunday service on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25th, and on New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1st.
- Muni will offer free rides on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 31 through 5 a.m. on Monday, January 1.
- Please do not tag your Clipper card. If you tag it, you will be charged. Please do not activate a MuniMobile ticket. All Metro fares gates will be open!
- On New Year’s Eve, extra Muni Subway Service will be provided from 8 p.m. Sunday to 2:15 a.m. Monday.
- S Shuttle Trains between West Portal Station and 4th & King from 8 p.m. to 2:15 a.m.
- S Shuttle Trains between Chinatown and 3rd & Mariposa from 8 p.m. to 2:15 a.m.
- The last S Shuttle trains trips will start at 2 a.m. from each end of the line. Stations will close at 2:15 a.m.
- On New Year’s Eve, extra Buses will run on Muni’s overnight OWL bus routes until 5 a.m for the following routes:
- 5 Fulton
- 14 Mission
- 22 Fillmore
- 24 Divisadero
- 25 Treasure Island
- 38 Geary
- 44 O’Shaughnessy
- 48 Quintara/24th
- 90 Owl
- 91 Owl
- L Owl
- N Owl
- Extra service on other routes:
- Route 7 Haight/Noriega from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight.
- 44 OWL service extended to serve Forest Hill Station until 2:15 a.m.
- BART
- BART will run a Sunday service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- On New Year’s Eve, BART is providing 1 am extended service for late-night riders coming back from the New Year’s Fireworks show in San Francisco or other celebrations.
- Special 3-line service will rune at 1 am:
- Orange Line provides Richmond – Berryessa service
- Yellow Line provides Transbay Millbrae – Antioch service
- Blue Line runs Bay Fair – Dublin/Pleansanton only
- Timed transfers are available for connecting services. Transfers at MacArthur, 12 St/Oakland, and Bay Fair for service on other lines.
- Additional special train may run on all lines depending on crowding.
- No service to SFO and OAK Airport stations.
- Special 3-line service will rune at 1 am:
- SamTrans
- SamTrans will operate Sunday service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- AC Transit
- AC Transit will operate Sunday service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- Caltrain
- Caltrain will operate Weekend service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- For New Year’s Eve – Sunday, December 31, 2023, Caltrain will operate a Weekend Schedule plus Extra Service
- NYE Specials: San Jose Diridon to San Francisco departing at 7:45 PM, 8:45 PM.
- NYE Specials: San Francisco to San Jose Diridon departing 1 AM, 1:30 AM, 2 AM.
- Caltrain is offering FREE Fares after 8 PM on New Year’s Eve.
- VTA
- VTA will operate a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- VTA will be offering free fares after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve through 5 a.m. New Year’s Day.
- On New Year’s Eve, VTA will operate later service on some routes.
- Golden Gate Transit
- Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day:
- Golden Gate Ferry: No Service
- Golden Gate Transit: Weekend/Holiday Service
- Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day:
- Tri Delta Transit
- Tri Delta Transit will operate Weekend service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- Monterey-Salinas Transit
- Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will provide a holiday bus service schedule on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Limited Holiday service will be available on the following bus lines:
JAZZ A Aquarium – Sand City via Hilby
JAZZ B Aquarium – Sand City via Broadway
Line 1 Monterey – Pacific Grove via Asilomar
Line 5 Monterey – Carmel Rancho (All trips will serve CHOMP)
Line 20 Monterey – Salinas
Line 23 Salinas – King City
Line 41 Salinas – Alisal – Northridge
Line 49 Salinas – Santa Rita via North Main
- Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will provide a holiday bus service schedule on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Limited Holiday service will be available on the following bus lines:
- Marin Transit
- Marin Transit will operate Sunday service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- LAVTA Wheels
- On Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, only routes 14, 15, 10R, and 30R operate, running a weekend schedule.
- Marin Airporter
- Marin Airporter will operate Sunday service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- The following agencies will have no service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day:
- County Connection
- Santa Cruz Metro (Amtrak Hwy 17 Express: Weekend Service)
- SolTrans (Friday, Nov. 24th – No Service)
- Sonoma County Transit (December 26, 27, 28, & 29, 2023 routes will operate according to their Saturday Schedule, meaning no service on local school trippers 15, 17, and 38 and no service on SolanoExpress Green Line and Rt 82.)
- VINE Transit (Friday, Nov. 24th – Vine local routes (Routes A, B, C, D, E, F, and G, 10, and 11) operate on a Saturday schedule . Regional Routes 11X, 21, and 29 operate on their normal schedule.)
