Many agencies are offering late-night and extended service for NYE so however you plan to celebrate, you’ll be able to get home safely! Check for details below.
New Year’s Service by Agency
- Muni
- Muni will offer FREE rides on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 31 through 5 a.m. on Monday, January 1.
- Please do not tag your Clipper card. If you tag it, you will be charged. Please do not activate a MuniMobile ticket. All Metro fares gates will be open!
- On New Year’s Eve, extra Muni Subway Service will be provided from 8 p.m. Sunday to 2:15 a.m. Monday.
- S Shuttle Trains between West Portal Station and 4th & King from 8 p.m. to 2:15 a.m.
- S Shuttle Trains between Chinatown and 3rd & Mariposa from 8 p.m. to 2:15 a.m.
- The last S Shuttle trains trips will start at 2 a.m. from each end of the line. Stations will close at 2:15 a.m.
- On New Year’s Eve, extra Buses will run on Muni’s overnight OWL bus routes until 5 a.m for the following routes:
- 5 Fulton
- 14 Mission
- 22 Fillmore
- 24 Divisadero
- 25 Treasure Island
- 38 Geary
- 44 O’Shaughnessy
- 48 Quintara/24th
- 90 Owl
- 91 Owl
- L Owl
- N Owl
- Extra service on other routes:
- Route 7 Haight/Noriega from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight.
- 44 OWL service extended to serve Forest Hill Station until 2:15 a.m.
- Muni will offer FREE rides on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 31 through 5 a.m. on Monday, January 1.
- BART
- On New Year’s Eve, BART is providing 1 am extended service for late-night riders coming back from the New Year’s Fireworks show in San Francisco or other celebrations.
- Special 3-line service will rune at 1 am:
- Orange Line provides Richmond – Berryessa service
- Yellow Line provides Transbay Millbrae – Antioch service
- Blue Line runs Bay Fair – Dublin/Pleansanton only
- Timed transfers are available for connecting services. Transfers at MacArthur, 12 St/Oakland, and Bay Fair for service on other lines.
- Additional special train may run on all lines depending on crowding.
- No service to SFO and OAK Airport stations.
- Special 3-line service will rune at 1 am:
- On New Year’s Eve, BART is providing 1 am extended service for late-night riders coming back from the New Year’s Fireworks show in San Francisco or other celebrations.
- SamTrans
- SamTrans service will be FREE from 8 p.m. on December 31.
- SamTrans will operate Sunday service on New Year’s Day.
- AC Transit
- All AC Transit buses will be FREE, including Transbay and Tempo lines, from 8:00 PM on December 31 until 5:00 AM on January 1.
- AC Transit will operate Sunday service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- Caltrain
- Caltrain is offering FREE fares after 8 PM on New Year’s Eve.
- For New Year’s Eve – Sunday, December 31, 2023, Caltrain will operate a Weekend Schedule plus Extra Service:
- NYE Specials: San Jose Diridon to San Francisco departing at 7:45 PM, 8:45 PM.
- NYE Specials: San Francisco to San Jose Diridon departing 1 AM, 1:30 AM, 2 AM.
- Caltrain will operate Weekend service on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
- VTA
- VTA will be offering FREE fares after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve through 5 a.m. New Year’s Day.
- On New Year’s Eve, VTA will offer extended service on some routes.
- Route 500: The last northbound bus will leave San Jose Diridon at 12:20 a.m., and the last southbound bus will leave Berryessa BART at 3:01 a.m.
- Blue Line: The last northbound train departs Santa Teresa at 1:52 a.m. The last southbound train departs Baypointe at 1:57 a.m.
- Green Line: The last northbound train departs Winchester at 1:40 a.m. and will terminate at Civic Center. The northbound trains that depart Winchester at 11:22 p.m. and 11:51 p.m. respectively and end at Civic Center will continue in-service to Old Ironsides. The last southbound train departs Old Ironsides at 1:22 a.m.
- Orange Line: The last eastbound train departs Baypointe at 2:43 a.m. The last westbound train departs Alum Rock at 1:36 a.m.
- VTA will operate a Sunday/Holiday schedule on Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
