Light rail construction zones

July 3, 2016

George Street between Hunter and Park Streets is closed to general traffic. A single northbound-only lane will remain on George Street, between Margaret and Bridge Streets, and between Grosvenor and Alfred Streets. This lane will be closed to general traffic on weekends.

Sections of George Street will continue to close as more light rail construction zones are established.

Buses no longer run along George Street and the bus network has been redesigned with new routes along Elizabeth, Park, Druitt, Clarence and York streets.

Refer to the map below showing the road closures (as at 1 July 2016).

    Travel tips

    • Plan ahead and use the Moovit trip planner for up-to-date timetables and stop information.
    • Follow signage at bus stops.
    • Be aware of traffic changes in the city.

The new 12-kilometre light rail will link Circular Quay with Randwick and Kingsford via George Street and Central with major construction complete by 2018, and the first services carrying passengers in early 2019.
