Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of September 16-18 with service adjustments on four of six lines. Trains will operate as follows:
- Blue and Green line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals
- Yellow Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Huntington and National Airport only
- Orange Line trains will operate every 12-24 minutes
- Red Line trains will operate every 6-20 minutes
- Silver Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only
Red Line
Trains every 6-20 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Silver Spring & Glenmont to allow for communication cable installation.
Red Line trains will operate:
- Between Shady Grove & Silver Spring: every 12-15 minutes with additional trains between 9AM and 9PM.
- Shuttle trains will operate between Silver Spring & Glenmont every 20 minutes. Transfer at Silver Spring to continue trip.
Orange Line
Trains every 12-24 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday
SafeTrack Surge #9 continuous single tracking between Vienna and West Falls Church through October 26.
Orange Line trains will operate in two segments:
- Between Vienna & West Falls Church every 24 minutes via shuttle train on the Vienna side of the platform. Transfer at West Falls Church to continue trip.
- Between West Falls Church & New Carrollton regular weekend intervals, every 12-15 minutes. All trains will operate using the center track.
Silver Line
Trains every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday
Silver Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.
Blue Line
Regular weekend intervals | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Addison Road and Morgan Boulevard to allow for platform rehabilitation. Blue Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals, every 12-15 minutes. Passengers at Addison Road will board all trains on the Franconia-Springfield platform.
Yellow Line
through closing Sunday
Yellow Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals, every 12-15 minutes between Huntington & National Airport only to allow for bridge inspection, cover board, guard rail and insulator renewal and joint elimination.
Customers traveling to/from stations north of National Airport should use a Blue Line train and transfer at L’Enfant Plaza to complete their trip.
Green Line
Regular weekend intervals
Single tracking between Mt. Vernon Sq and U Street to allow for rail, fastener & stud renewal and joint elimination. Green Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals, every 12-15 minutes. Passengers at Mt. Vernon Square and Shaw-Howard will board all trains on the Greenbelt platform.
