Major works this autumn
Works continue on some of the state’s biggest transport projects this autumn. Critical maintenance works will also take place on our rail, tram and road networks to ensure services continue to run reliably.
There’ll be disruptions to the public transport and road networks while these works take place. Be sure to plan ahead and allow extra time or take an alternative route if possible.
Metro Trains
Belgrave Line
- Buses replace trains between Ringwood and Belgrave stations from 8.30pm Friday 18 March to last service Sunday 20 March.
Belgrave and Lilydale Line
- Buses replace trains between Camberwell and Box Hill from 8.30pm Friday 25 March to 8.30pm Friday 1 April with bus replacements extending between Camberwell and Ringwood from 8:30pm Friday 1 April to last service Sunday 3 April.
Belgrave, Glen Waverley, and Lilydale Lines
- Belgrave, Glen Waverley, and Lilydale trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 9pm Friday 25 March to last train Sunday 27 March, due to works.
Craigieburn Line
- Buses replace trains between Essendon and Broadmeadows from 9pm to last service each night, Monday 21 March to Wednesday 23 March.
Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield, Dandenong and Pakenham stations from 8.15pm to last service each night on Sunday 20 March and Monday 21 March, due to works.
Hurstbridge Line
- Buses replace trains between Parliament and Heidelberg stations from 8.40pm Friday 25 March to last train Sunday 27 March.
Mernda Line
- Buses replace trains between Parliament and Reservoir stations from 8.40pm Friday 25 March to last train Sunday 27 March.
Pakenham Line
- Buses replace trains between Dandenong and Pakenham from 9pm Wednesday 9 March to last service Monday 21 March.
Upfield Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Upfield stations from 8.35pm to last train each night from Friday 18 March to Sunday 20 March 2022, due to works.
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Upfield stations from 8.35pm to last train each night from Monday 21 March to Wednesday 23 March.
Werribee Line
- Buses replace trains between Newport and Werribee from 11.30pm to last train on Monday 21 March.

Yarra Trams
Route 1
- Route 1 trams will run a shortened service between East Coburg and Stop 14 Arts Precinct from 7pm to last tram on Tuesday 22 March.
Route 35 (City Circle), 70, and 75
- Route 35 (City Circle), 70, and 75 trams will be affected by service changes from 2am Saturday 19 March to 5am Sunday 20 March 2022, due to track renewal works on Harbour Esplanade between Collins Street and La Trobe Street in Docklands.
Route 70
- Route 70 trams will not service a select stop from Friday 18 March 2022 until Sunday 31 December 2023.
V/Line
Albury, Seymour and Shepparton Lines
- Coaches will replace Albury Line trains between Southern Cross and Albury from the evening of Friday 11 March to the morning of Monday 21 March, due to North East Rail Line Upgrade works.
- Coaches will replace some evening Seymour Line trains for the entire journey from Sunday 13 March to Wednesday 16 March.
Ararat, Ballarat and Maryborough Lines
- Coaches will replace Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough trains between Melton and Southern Cross stations on Saturday 19 March and Sunday 20 March, due to works on the Level Crossing Removal Project.
Bairnsdale and Traralgon Lines
- Coaches will replace all Gippsland trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale from Thursday 10 March to Monday 21 March.
- Coaches will replace some evening trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines for all or part of the journey from Tuesday 22 March to Thursday 24 March.
- Coaches will replace some evening trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines for all or part of the journey from Sunday 27 March to Thursday 31 March.
Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill Lines
- Trains on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines will operate with temporary speed restrictions and some changes to arrival and departure times from Monday 28 February to Monday 4 April.
- Select trains on the Bendigo line will not operate between Bendigo and Eaglehawk/Epsom on weekdays from Tuesday 15 March to Friday 25 March.
Geelong and Warrnambool Lines
- Coaches replace Geelong and Warrnambool trains for all or part of the journey Saturday 19 March and Sunday 20 March, due to works.
- Coaches will replace select evening trains on the Geelong Line for the entire journey evening trains on Monday 21 March and Tuesday 22 March.
