Major works this winter
Works continue on some of the state’s biggest transport projects this winter. Critical maintenance works will also take place on our rail, tram and road networks to ensure services continue to run reliably.
There’ll be disruptions to the public transport and road networks while these works take place. Be sure to plan ahead and allow extra time or take an alternative route if possible.
Metro Trains
Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield and Westall stations from 8.30pm to last service on Thursday 26 May.
- Cranbourne and Pakenham trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 9pm Friday 27 May to last service Sunday 29 May.
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong from 9.55pm Friday 27 May to last service Sunday 29 May.
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong from 8.10pm to last service each night, Monday 30 May to Wednesday 1 June, due to works.
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield, Cranbourne and Pakenham stations from 8:30pm to last service each night, Sunday 5 June to Wednesday 8 June 2022, due to works.
Frankston Line
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield and Mordialloc stations from Wednesday 1 June to last service Thursday 2 June 2022, due to works.
Mernda Line
- Buses replace trains on select sections of the Mernda Line from 9pm on Tuesday 17 May to last service Sunday 29 May.
- Bell and Preston stations will be closed from Monday 30 May to September 2022.
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace trains between Sunshine and Sunbury stations from 8.30pm to last service on Monday 30 May 2022, due to project works.
- Buses replace trains between Watergardens and Sunbury stations from 8.30pm to last service on Wednesday 1 June 2022, due to project works.
- Buses replace trains between Sunshine and Sunbury stations from 9pm Friday 3 June to last service Wednesday 29 June, due to works.

Yarra Trams
Route 12 and 75
- Route 12 and 75 trams will experience service changes at select times from Sunday 24 April to Sunday 29 May.
Route 96
- Route 96 trams will experience service alterations from 2pm to last tram on Sunday 5 June.
V/Line
Ballarat Line
- Coaches will replace Ballarat line trains that originate and terminate at Bacchus Marsh and Melton stations for the entire journey from Monday 23 May to Friday 27 May.
- Coaches replace evening trains on the Ballarat line from Sunday 29 May to Tuesday 31 May.
Bairnsdale and Traralgon Lines
- Coaches will replace trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines for all or part of the journey at select times from the evening of Sunday 22 May to Wednesday 1 June.
- Coaches replace select evening trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines from Sunday 5 June to Thursday 9 June 2022, due to Victoria’s Big Build works.
Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill Lines
- Coaches replace select evening Bendigo trains for the whole journey on Monday 30 May and Wednesday 1 June 2022, due to works.
- Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill V/Line train lines will experience temporary speed restrictions from Tuesday 24 May to Sunday 5 June, due to track works.
- Coaches replace trains on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines for part of the journey from the evening of Friday 3 June to last service Wednesday 29 June 2022, due to works.
Geelong and Warrnambool Lines
- Coaches will replace trains on the Geelong Line for all or part of the journey from from Saturday 30 April to Saturday 28 May.
- Coaches replace Warrnambool trains for all or part of the journey from Saturday 30 April to Saturday 28 May.
Seymour and Shepparton Lines
- Trains on the Seymour and Shepparton lines will operate at slower than normal speeds and with some changes to arrival and departure times from Monday 9 May to Thursday 9 June.
- Coaches will replace select evening trains on the Seymour Line for the entire journey from Sunday 5 June to Wednesday 8 June, due to V/Line maintenance works.
