📢 West Midlands: May Bank Holiday & Great Birmingham Run

    Significant disruptions and schedule changes will affect the West Midlands from tomorrow (Friday, May 1st) through the Bank Holiday weekend.

    The Great Birmingham Run on Sunday, May 3rd, will cause the most substantial impact in Birmingham city centre.


    🏃 Great Birmingham Run (Sunday, May 3rd)

    Expect major road closures and diversions from 04:30 to 16:00 across Birmingham (Broad St, Digbeth, Jewellery Quarter, and more).

    • West Midlands Metro: * Start of service – 14:00: Trams will only run between Wolverhampton and Grand Central.

      • Closed: No service between Grand Central and Edgbaston Village (including Library, Five Ways, and Brindleyplace).

      • Extra Trams: Two additional services at 06:00 and 06:30 from Wolverhampton to help runners reach the start line.

    • Buses: Over 30 routes will be diverted or have stop changes, including:

      • National Express: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4A, 5, 6, 7, 8A/C, 9, 12/A, 13/A, 16, 17, 23, 24, 35, 45, 47, 50, 52, 60, 80, 82, 87, 97, 101, X1, X2, X8, X10.

      • Diamond Bus: Service 16A will also follow a dedicated diversion.

    🗓️ May Bank Holiday (Monday, May 4th)

    • Buses: Most operators (National Express, Diamond, Stagecoach) will run a Sunday Timetable on Monday. Normal service resumes Tuesday, May 5th.

    • Trains: Services will generally follow a Saturday/Bank Holiday schedule.

      • Warning: London Euston will operate on a reduced schedule all weekend due to limited line capacity—expect delays on West Coast Main Line services to/from Birmingham New Street.

    🚉 Rail Engineering Works

    • Birmingham New Street / Euston: Ongoing upgrades mean reduced frequency on some long-distance routes.

    • Statfold Country Park (Tamworth): Special events from Sat–Mon; expect busier local services around Tamworth/Ashby Rd.
