Service Disruptions & Planned Weekend Rail Closures

July 15, 2026
🌡️ Infrastructure Speed Restrictions (Birmingham to Wolverhampton Corridor)

Due to high mid-summer track temperatures, Network Rail has implemented precautionary speed limits across key sections of the local network to mitigate track buckling risks.

    • Delays Expected: Commuters on lines between Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, and Birmingham International should anticipate rolling delays of 10 to 15 minutes, particularly during peak afternoon heat windows (12:00 to 18:00).

    • Metro & Bus Networks: National Express West Midlands buses and the West Midlands Metro tram system are fully operational, though localized delays may occur due to increased road congestion from displaced rail travelers.

🔧 Sunday Engineering Works & Route Closures (Sunday 19 July)

Planned infrastructure upgrades on Sunday will result in suspensions and bus replacement services on major regional pathways:

    • Shrewsbury / Telford to Wolverhampton Line: All train services between Shrewsbury, Telford Central, and Wolverhampton are suspended on Sunday 19 July until approximately 19:00.

    • Replacement Bus Services: A dedicated rail-replacement bus schedule will operate to connect affected passengers to Wolverhampton, where onward rail connections to Birmingham New Street remain active. Please allow an additional 30 to 45 minutes of travel time.
