π West Midlands Railway Strike Action (Friday 10 & Saturday 11 July)
Due to a dispute involving TSSA union members, West Midlands Railway will operate a critically reduced emergency timetable on Friday and Saturday, with early evening shutdowns.
Severe Service Reductions: On Friday 10 July, a highly limited service will operate on only three core routes: the Cross City Line (Lichfield Trent Valley β Redditch/Bromsgrove), Wolverhampton to Walsall, and Rugeley Trent Valley to Birmingham International.
Early Friday Shutdown: No trains will run anywhere on the WMR network after 19:00 on Friday, with final services departing major hubs from 17:00.
Complete Route Suspensions: No services whatsoever will run on either strike day across the Birmingham Snow Hill lines, the Camp Hill Line, Nuneaton to Coventry/Leamington Spa, Birmingham New Street to Hereford, or Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury.
Cascading Impact: Expect severe platform overcrowding and boarding queues on alternative operators such as Chiltern Railways, Avanti West Coast, and CrossCountry, which are expected to remain running.
π‘οΈ Heatwave Infrastructure Speeds & Surface Delays
Due to high ambient temperatures across Central England, Network Rail has initiated precautionary emergency speed restrictions on exposed outdoor lines to prevent track buckling.
Rail Delays: Commuters on all regional rail pipelines into Birmingham New Street, Snow Hill, and Coventry should expect rolling delays of 15β20 minutes due to these speed caps.
West Midlands Metro & Bus Network: While the regional bus network and the West Midlands Metro tram system are operating normal routes, localized surface delays are expected as commuters shift from rail to road transit.
