Effective Date: Monday, December 15
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will implement major improvements to the Metrobus network on this date, including a brand new connection between DC and Alexandria, and service updates on 50 Metrobus routes.
⭐ New Route Spotlight: A29 Metro Center–Alexandria W
WMATA is adding a new express route that will provide a vital, transfer-free link between Metro Center (DC) and the Van Dorn St Station (Alexandria).
Key Stops: The route will serve Shirlington, Park Center, Southern Towers, Mark Center, and the West Alexandria Transit Center (former Landmark Mall).
Service: Will operate every 24 minutes during weekday rush hours (mornings north to Metro Center, and afternoons south to Van Dorn St).
🗺️ Other Major Service Updates
District of Columbia (DC) Metrobus Changes
Route C63: The route will extend to reach Georgia Av-Petworth Station, providing better Green Line connections and access to the Washington Hospital Center and the VA Medical Center.
Route C11: Additional trips will be added to the weekday rush hour schedule to relieve crowding.
Route D1X: The route will extend from Archives to serve Federal Triangle.
Route D32: The terminal will change to Federal Triangle instead of Gallery Place.
Route C87: The name will change to Silver Spring–Tenleytown. It will no longer serve Van Ness Station.
Routes C25/C26: Westbound routes to Anacostia will no longer detour to Congress Heights Station, providing more direct service.
Maryland (MD) Metrobus Changes
Routes M42/M44: The routes will operate via Plum Orchard Dr to better connect with Adventist White Oak Medical Center and shopping areas.
Route M52: An early morning southbound trip from Burtonsville (4:20 a.m.) to Silver Spring will be added.
Virginia (VA) Metrobus Changes
Route A25: Service frequency will improve to every 15 minutes (from every 30 minutes).
Route A66: The route will serve Pentagon City during weekday rush hours in the non-peak direction of travel.
Route A11: The long-term detour via Richmond Highway will end, and service will be restored to South Clark St + 23 St South.
