Changes in Train Traffic due to the accelerated electrification of the Western Negev line, Be'er Sheva area, and Karmiel

October 30, 2024

Dear riders,

We have collected several public transit changes that are worth getting to know about this weekend.

🚆 Israel Railways

Accelerating the Electrification of the Western Negev Railway, the Be’er Sheva Area, and Karmiel

As part of the accelerated work on the electrification project, there will be changes to train services in the coming months at Be’er Sheva, Ofakim, Netivot, Sderot, Ahihud, and Karmiel stations.

Train traffic will operate as usual on weekdays during most of the operating hours, and will be stopped only on Saturday evening, and only during the night hours at some stations, in order not to affect the service and to maintain train service during peak hours on weekdays and Fridays, when the demand for trains is high.

The Ministry of Transport will reinforce the regular bus lines, and Israel Railways will operate a dedicated shuttle system.

The work will begin on Friday, 1.11.24 and will last for about a year.

Karmiel and Ahihud stations

  • Will be closed for service every night during the coming year
  • Train number 470 will leave Hof HaCarmel station at 21:15 (instead at 20:57) and will end its journey at the Ahihud and Karmiel stations.
  • The Ministry of Transport will increase the regular bus lines between the Karmiel, Ahihud, and Haifa stations.
  • Train traffic at these stations will return to normal every morning at 5:00, upon the resumption of service.

Sderot, Netivot, and Ofakim stations

  • Will be closed to service every night during the coming months.
  • On Fridays only, train traffic to/from these stations will end at 12:00 noon (approximately) instead of 15:00.
  • On Sunday-Thursday, train traffic to Sderot Station will end at 20:00 (approximately). The train traffic to Ofakim and Netivot stations will end at 21:00 (approximately).
  • Train traffic will resume every day at 6:00 in the morning (approximately) instead of 5:00 in the morning.
  • For passengers from Sderot and Netivot stations who wish to travel towards the Central Region and other areas, as well as for passengers who wish to travel in the opposite direction, it is recommended to use the shuttle services operated by Israel Railways from these stations to Ashkelon station and continue by train from there.

Additional information about the alternative shuttles operated by the railway is available in the Trip Plan and Lines tabs in the Moovit app 📱🔍.

Be’er Sheva Center, Be’er Sheva North University, and Lehavim Rahat Stations

  • Will be closed to service from midnight, and trains on this line will start and end their journey at Kiryat Gat station.
  • On Fridays only, train traffic at the Be’er Sheva Center, Be’er Sheva North University, and Lehavim Rahat stations will end at 12:00 noon (approximately), instead of at 15:00.
  • Every morning, train traffic will resume at 6:00 in the morning (approximately) instead of 5:00 in the morning.
  • Sunday-Thursday, slight changes will apply to the travel times of the late evening trains and a few minutes will be added to the travel time. This is due to the trains using one track instead of two.
  • The Ministry of Transport will increase the regular bus lines in the area (370, 380).

Additional information about the alternative shuttles between Kiryat Gat, Lehavim, and Be’er Sheva North stations is available in the Trip Plan and Lines tabs in the Moovit app 📱🔍.

It is recommended to plan your trip in advance 🚥. *There might be unexpected changes.*
