Important 2026 Service Changes – 4 & 5 Trains (NYC)

    Jan 5 through Feb 23, 2026

    Starting January 5, 2026, major work on the Jerome Avenue Line means significant 4 and 5 Train changes through February 23, 2026. This will affect late-night, weekend, and rush-hour travel.


    What Riders Should Know

    ๐Ÿšจ Affected Service

    • Weeknights (Monโ€“Fri):
      11:45 p.m.โ€“5:00 a.m. โ€” No 4 or 5 trains between 149 Stโ€“Grand Concourse and 125 St.

    • Weekends:
      From Fri 9:45 p.m. โ€“ Mon 5:00 a.m. (and through Tue 5:00 a.m. on Presidents Day weekend) โ€”
      Same section closed, plus segments of the 4 line will be out of service.

    • Rush Hours:
      Some slower trains and reduced frequencies during peak hours from Jan 26โ€“Feb 20.

    Alternate Routes & Options

    ๐ŸšŒ Shuttle Buses

    • Free shuttle buses will run between 149 Stโ€“Grand Concourse and 3 Avโ€“138 St with local stops.

    ๐Ÿš‡ Other Subway Lines

    • B and D trains โ€” good options between the Bronx and Manhattan.

    • 2 train โ€” between E 180 St and 149 St when the 4 is not running.

    • 6 train โ€” between 125 St and Bowling Green as needed.

    ๐Ÿš† Metro-North Option

    Metro-North is accepting subway tickets for free travel between:

    • Bronx stations (starting at University Heights or Wakefield)

    • Grand Central Terminal
      This can be a useful option during closures.
