Navigating NY/NJ During This Summer’s Major Soccer Championship

June 8, 2026

Your Ultimate Transit Guide to the Global Matches, Fan Zones, and Daily Commuting from June 11 to July 19, 2026

The world’s biggest soccer tournament is anchoring itself in the NY/NJ metropolitan area, bringing an unprecedented wave of international visitors. The region will host eight massive matches this summer at the stadium in East Rutherford (referred to during the tournament as New York New Jersey Stadium) on June 13, June 16, June 22, June 25, June 27, June 30, July 5, and the historic Final on July 19, 2026. Whether you have a ticket to the Final, are traveling to a fan event, or are just making your daily commute, public transit will experience heavy adjustments.

Because transit schedules are highly dynamic—with synchronized rail shuttles, dedicated express buses, and live, real-time disruptions based on traffic—you can rely on Moovit for up-to-the-minute trip planning. Moovit tracks everything across NJ Transit, the MTA, PATH, and NY Waterway to ensure your trip is seamless.

🛑 Choose Your Journey Below:

⚽ 1. I Am Attending a Match at the Stadium

All matches are being held at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. There is zero public parking at the stadium on match days. You must ride mass transit or use official shuttles.

  • NJ Transit Rail Service: Take the train from Penn Station New York or Hoboken Terminal to Secaucus Junction. From Secaucus, transfer directly to the BetMGM Meadowlands Rail Line for the quick trip to the stadium. Trains run continuously before and after matches.
  • Official Express Bus Shuttles: Secure a seat on the official tournament express bus shuttles running directly from downtown Manhattan, Port Authority Bus Terminal, and key regional hubs straight to the stadium gates.
  • The American Dream Connection: NJ Transit is running supplemental bus service via the 351 Meadowlands Express from Port Authority and local routes linking directly to the neighboring entertainment complex.

🎉 2. I Am Heading to Fan Events & Watch Parties

Official tournament fan festivals, giant watch parties, and public celebrations are taking over Liberty State Park in Jersey City and Central Park/downtown spaces in New York from June 11 to July 19.

  • 🔍 Find Your Celebration Instantly: Don’t waste time typing in exact park zones or street intersections. Simply search the term “Fan Zone” in the Moovit app to instantly pull up the quickest transit routes to all active event sites across NY and NJ.
  • 📍 Look for the Icons: When exploring the map in Moovit, keep an eye out for specially marked event icons highlighting exactly where the biggest official watch parties and tournament festivals are located.
  • Liberty State Park Fan Zone Transit: Avoid highway gridlock by using the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) directly to the Liberty State Park station, or take the NY Waterway Ferry from Manhattan to Warren Street and connect to local transit.

💼 3. I Am Navigating the City

If you are a local resident or daily commuter trying to move around NYC or Northern New Jersey without attending the matches, expect significant congestion at major transit gateways.

  • Secaucus Junction & Penn Station Bottlenecks: Commuters utilizing NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, or Morris & Essex lines should expect major platform crowding at Secaucus and NY Penn Station on the 8 match days, particularly during afternoon rush hours.
  • MTA Subway Capacity: The MTA is increasing train frequencies on the 1, 2, 3, A, C, and E lines to support fans moving towards Penn Station and Port Authority. Regular commuters should allow an extra 15–20 minutes of travel time.

PATH Train Adjustments: PATH is running enhanced weekend and evening schedules between Manhattan and New Jersey to handle cross-river regional overflow.
